There's a photo floating around the internet of a couple dozen (Platoon?) Handschar men in these shirts or other service shirts. There are some wearing the eagle and shield and I believe a Sturmann or Rottenfuhrer weaing both AND the chevron. I'm not sure about ribbon bars.

Thanks for posting the photo of the Handschar divison! Seems they're not really waering the sahariana tropical shirt, but they're indeed only wearing the shoulderboards.
On the other few photo's I found of the SS sahariana shirt being worn, they only wear the boards too. So I assume we can say they didn't wear the eagle and chevrons per regulations on the shirt? Otherwise there would be (more) photoproof on that?
However, should anyone have an original photo or shariana shirt in his collection with the eagle/chevron on the sleeve, I would be very thankfull to see it!

Is this an original shirt and were those insignia indeed worn on the SS Saharia Tropenhemd?
It's described as:
''Waffen-SS Tropical "Sahariana" Shirt for a Sturmmann in the Infantry. (Tropenhemd) Even though the Waffen-SS served in tropical regions of the Balkans, Greece, and southern Russia as early as 1941 tropical clothing wasn't produced until 1943. One of the most unique clothing items introduced was the "Sahariana" style shirt that was based on the Italian bush tunic. This near mint and possibly unissued shirt is constructed from tropical tan ribbed cotton. It features a four button front closure plaquet and a lay down collar. The collar is backed in a lighter weight linen with a scalloped tip and single button at the back. There are 2 pleated breast pockets below a scalloped shoulder yolk that covers the back as well. The front scalloped tips function as button down closure flaps for the breast pockets. The shoulder yoke also features 2 tunnel loops for each shoulder strap with 2 field gray pebbled zinc buttons. The infantry piped straps are so mint that I feared they may be reproductions but they appear to be constructed from period wool and sewn with 100% cotton thread (burn tested). The left sleeve features a BeVo tropical eagle and a single tropical tress stripe rank chevron. All 8 of the original tan "glass" type buttons are still intact. It does not appear as though there was ever a button sewn beneath the scalloped collar on the reverse, although there is a button hole. Over all a mint beauty with no stamps or markings other than a small "52(?)" in black ink at the neck.''

Thanks a lot in advance, cheers,
