Enver Redzic wrote those books during the 80's in ex Yugoslavia so you have to understand that he was not writing exactly how it was but also how they wanted the picture done, enough to mention one caption from the book , " highest combat achievements were burning villages and theft ", we all know that is pure communist propaganda crap so i wouldn't take everything for granted when it comes to Enver Redzic Lepre's book is the real deal

Or actually what make up most of the Western History books like we read in high school as well in my opinion, because many times, i'm not saying all, but many western books obviously got a certain level of their basis info from the "official figures" of Yugoslavian post war Info 45-onwards, also used for propaganda and covering over certain inconvenient facts sometimes for Political reasons. Its not all Black and white for sure.

That's for sure, but I also have to agree with what Obergruppen wrote above. The first chapters of Redzic's book are pretty decent and bring some rather unfamiliar topics to the spotlight, but overall there feels to be quite a bit of "moralizing" and "high horse" attitude. It seems that Lepre's book indeed will remain THE authoritative source on this division.

Nothing was ever truer said, when it comes to history in general , and especially in this area in particular.

A higher quality of information has been written in this thread than is usual nowadays.

Here 2 more neat mounted Handschar images! Exotic! Its a GebirgsJaeger Division but patrolling in the rural Balkans
on horseback (the MP unit, note Feldgendarme gorgets) made most sense!

Agreed! But I thought the eagles were only gold for General officers? Would a Sani's armband cover the shield?
