    Hello,

I just want to show this SS death card of a Criminal investigation department Officer who served in the Waffen-SS

Also interesting, I think, is the cap and it`s insignia.

    kind regard

I've got something very similar for a SiPo\SD Kriminaloberassitent KIA during anti-partisan warfare in Slovenia.
I suspect your man could had something to do with Einsatzgruppen.
I've also noticed that sometimes Einstazgruppen SD\SiPo men were supplied with that particular type of M43 caps, I don't know wht, but this is not the first time I see a cap like that in use by SD "combat" troops.

I wonder why SD guys often used solid schirmmutze insignas on their M43....never understood that.

Not necessarily strictly related to combat troops, Einsatzgruppen or SD members. Infact the one for sale exhibits a "Stapo" stamp to the lining.

Here is another as worn by a driver working for the Stapo in Czechoslovakia. Interestingly, he wears the same cold weather uniform set up as the guy in my picture who was photographed whilst serving in Norway.

                      Hi Graham,

WSS drivers of "open" cars (usually Stab cars) often used such "covered neck" pullovers, I've also few pictures of members of a K-Staffel, where at least 5 of them are wearing such kind of pullover, and amongst them the division Kdr.'s driver.

Just wonder why SD-SiPo-StaPo-Einsatzkommando used such kind of odd M43 caps with solid insignas...any clue?

I think we should also pay attention to the hint that Franz (Franticzek) Rothmeier was - as mentioned in the doc - in July 1945 taken to another place unknown where...

Sounds scary to me and makes me wonder if he really was just a driver...

                          Hi T,

Not come across any particular order or reference so more than likely down to availability. Have seen just as many SiPo & EG guys wearing the normal versions with and without metal insignia.

Sure are nice caps and would love to have one in the collection.

However, with the price of the one on Martins site being the same as a good SiPo Dienstausweis, I know what I would rather spend my money on!

                            Hello G.,

You may be right, but I did notice that while the use of solid schirm insignas on M43 by WSS troops is something pretty uncommon, it's pretty common amongst SiPo\Stapo\SD\EG combat soldiers, so, there must be a reason for.
Something similar to the link to those strange "belted" M43, very rarely encountered in wear by WSS troops, but very commonly by SiPo\SD\Stapo\EG.
Looks to me that there must be a connection between the use of such "belted" M43 caps with solid insignas and "Security" units such as of SD, Stapo, SiPo etc.etc.

                            best

Members of a WSS Division K-Staffel (I suspect drivers of the Stabskp.)
