I had someone send me an email thanking me for being amongst the number of people who, if I can remember the phrasing properly, "didn't try to make Nordic heroes out of mass murderers", or words to that effect. Sorry Charles, I thought it was a PM or I would have answered you directly before deleting it from my email
Not for certain member's edification will I say that I collect Third Reich militaria as a further means of studying the war & it's participants. I have read and will continue to read all well written books concerning the history of WW2 and that will include memoirs and well researched documentation. I believe that I can collect SS or Luftwaffe or Heer or Kriegsmarine without kneeling at the altar of Fascism. I feel that I can be interested in the aspects of the Third Reich without condoning what members of the SS or Gestapo or Police Battalions did.
George Santayana is known for his (often-misquoted) comments: "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to fulfill it and only the dead have seen the end of war." I remember. I read about it and I repeat it so that others will remember it too. The Jews of Israel remember it too and they know the details too. Shall we say that they enjoy reading & studying about & support Nazism or Fascism because they know of it???!!
As far as certain members go, trying to say that people that were wholesale murderers had a sunny side to their disposition & we should remember them in a kindlier fashion, I will remind you that there are pictures of Adolf Hitler patting children on the head and accepting flowers from them. Should we rehabilitate him much as Mr. Ahmadinejad of Iran would like us to??
Oh yes, Mr. Hitler (because according to some people, we must show respect to the kindly leaders of the Third Reich) was also kind to dogs.....until he killed his own dog to test out his capsule of poison....because he was afraid to face the judgement and the eyes of the world. He took the coward's way out, because he was nothing but a coward & once again we have an example of someone who got off much too easily. Even if he had been captured and tried, he still would have been given a humane execution and would not have been tortured to death over as long a period of time as his slaves were, in the prisons of the Gestapo and the concentration camps of his SS. Because the majority of the world believes in humanity and civilization.
I will not respond any further to anything from anyone other then concerning the possibility of understanding the setup of the administrative branches of certain parts of certain organizations.
