    Nice one T

Still can't believe I am reading all this pedantic bullsh*t!!

I think you'll find the definition of a sniper is one who shoots at individuals from a concealed place.

The guy with Zf41 in the photo certainly looks like he is dressed for concealment ergo...a sniper, irrespective of what sight he is or isn't using!!!!!

              Cool picture!

The German manual (D136/1) refers (right on the cover) that the K98k - Zf41 is a Zielfernrohrgewehr (telescopic sight rifle) while their manuals on K98ks with Zf39 sniper scopes are referred as Scharfschützengewehre (sharpshooter rifles).

By 1944 ZF41 rifles were issued in large numbers to "riflemen with no formal or comprehensive sharpshooter training, but above averrage marksmanship abilities." Page 98 of "Law's Sniper Variations".

The US military's ACOG is a pretty good analogy, so is Jeff Copper's "scout rifle" concept where the scope is mounted forward. My M68 CCO (Aimpoint Comp4S) mounted up front on my SOCOM 16 is also a good match to the Zf41 concept. Aids in markmanship, but is not a sniper weapon.
