    Italian camo jackets

    Hi Guys

    Would be very grateful for some comments on these as not my usual thing at all. I know these are tough to authenticate due to being private or field made but got them for next to nothing so took a punt.

    First one is M44 blouse type cut with pressed paper 'Elegant' buttons, has various holes and wear. Also has a seemingly original SS arm eagle applied which is not the original. Looking from the inside of the arm you can see the shadow and stitch holes of the SS eagle that was previously there. The shoulder buttons are gone as are the boards.

    Second is an offciers great coat cut with some very battered boards that are sew ins but have been sewn directly to the board loop. You can clearly see removed stitching lines so this has been made from a zelt or similar.

    Anyway fire away and many thanks in advance for any opinions

                Any opinions guys? I did a bit of digging on the camo patterns and it appears that chocolate brown in Italian camo is wartime whereas the more brick red probably not so I'm thinking 1st jacket has a chance whilst the overcoat is possibly a post war assembly

                  Hello Patrick,

                  I have a very similar M44 jacket with trousers, although more faded. This means these jacket were probably on a limited scale factory made. Very interesting. I have never seen this M44 jacket besides mine. It even has the same buttons, but a slightly different stitching.

                  I don't like the overcoat at all.

                    Interesting jackets, I like Italian camo (field made) pces. The 2nd one is most probably a field made GJ 'wind jacke' in Italian camo, the model is well known, cannot comment on originality but both look very nice.

                      not wishing to offend, but my thoughts are post war made with original wartime italian material, purely on the grounds of lack of wear consistant of wartime fieldmade items ... i don't feel either are factory made pieces.

                        Ok, I will throw the whole lot away... thanks for the tip!

                        These remarks really make me think where your knowledge comes from. A. How can you see from these pictures if the wear consistency is ok? Have you ever owned SS smocks? Well, let me tell you they a lot prettier than these items with less wear consistency.
                        B. It's known that some items were factory made. Look at the SS camo m43 cap I own two who have less wear than the below mentioned items. And many items were field made that's true. I can't say for sure if the below mentioned items are factory made, but I am speculating.
                        C. Buy some books about uniforms or historical ( I have a small library) and you will find ample evidence of these items being worn.
                        D. These items have no much value or interest in the collecting community.
                        E. I know my business a bit so I have some knowledge about the matter.

                        I am sorry guys, but I always get a bit annoyed with hollow remarks. My apologies.

                          I gave mine, very sorry if I disagree with yourself.
                          i'll still have my own opinion thanks, i'm not disputing these type of items were made and worn wartime, but we were asked to comment on these two items.
                          i'll be popping out tomorrow to buy some more books, i obviously don't own enough!!

                            Thanks for the comments guys, both for and against, the overcoat is indeed a windjacke cut, thanks for pointing that out, I think its probably post war made from real material. The M44 I think has a chance, Fred thanks for showing your similar one- very interesting that it has the same buttons on it. If anyone would like any particular shots to assist I will happily take them. I paid for these 2 less than the value of the original arm eagle so all is good even if both are post war made.

                              Camo jackets like this and others / field made etc. you have to have a certain amount of faith in..
                              IF all the insig and buttons, thread seems period correct ,,sure why not.
