These photos will show how the piping cord is connected with a thread, and of what material it is. The first shot is looking down on the tab, the second is when I flipped the tab over to show you the other side.

Photos 5 and 6 will show the tab edges unbent. It will show the buckram's true color and fibers as well. The buckram is WET in this photo - it looks as if the Vet had "Wood glue? ? ?" to secure this to a gray paper scrapbook. I wet the tab to allow the glue to give; it was rather tricky.Attached FilesPlease visit my site: https://wehrmacht-militaria.com/

Here is the inside of the tab showing the back of the rune construction which you can not see when looking at the tab - it looks like period bullion work to me. Last photo is of the piping cord connecting thread.Attached FilesPlease visit my site: https://wehrmacht-militaria.com/

Hello all,
After placing a black-light on it I was pleased to see there was only a spec on the rune that glowed - certainly something could have spilled on it after the war.
Upon closer examination of the ONLY glowing spot, when the silver wrap-around wire is removed from the base thread - the base thread glows.
not a good sign - and I'll show you exactly what I am talking about.
I know there are period items that will glow under a blacklight but unless somebody has a really good explanation for this questionable piece.....
