It is the Commemorative Cross of the Finnish SS-Volunteers. (Suomalaisten SS-vapaaehtoisten muistoristi) Instituted in 1958.

Ever hear of Larry Allen Thorne? His birth name was Laurie Tierney (sp?). I believe he held every, or most major Finnish military awards. After fighting the Ruskies for Finland, he joined the Waffen SS, was eventually captured, escaped several times, and then made his way to the US, where he became a member of Army Special Forces. He was killed in Laos where his small spotter plane went down. He fought Communism under 3 flags. He, and so many others exhibited uncommon valor, and very few people know their names. But everyone has heard of Carrot Top.

His birth name was Lauri Törni. Knight of the Mannerheim cross – a high and very rare award in Finnland. He was an officer in the Waffen-SS, but only for some months. He never saw action during this time. After the WW2 he served in the US Army and the book "The Green Barets" (film with John Wayne) is inspired by Lauri Törni´s time as an US Ranger. He was a 100% soldier!
