Robin Lumsden asked me to post this:

I've been reading the posts on the ring and box. Both 100% original in my opinion. I agree with you. I'm also sure that the Frank ring is 100% original. I've been collecting these things for almost 30 years and there's no doubt in my mind...............even from the photos alone. Feel free to pass on my views on the forum, if you wish.

The Frank ring going back nearly 2 years now, was the subject of ridicule, false accusations, loss friendships, and a bunch of heartache. That which was done and said to discredit this near perfect and mint period ring, is unfortunate, but you can't un-ring a bell. And just as the SSTK that Dai posted for discussion, several members were quick to dismiss that ring as: "super fake, not for me, high quality postwar cast, screams No good" and more. But in the end, we found out that the ring was good. Talk of fake certificates and poor photos, prejudiced a period ring.

The same was true with the Frank ring. Poor photos taken by me during the winter of 2009, were not good enough to evaluate the Frank ring during the 50 page tome, that turned into a complete menagerie. And like the Klohn ring/box that started this thread...........................then came the certificate.......... which I don't even want to get into all over again. With the discovery of the Klohn ring out of the weeds that showed the same engraving as the Frank ring, it was time to show the photos of the Frank ring again, but this time with better clarity.

In closing I wanted to say thank you to those who stood behind me the last 2 years during some very passionate discussions over this ring. There has even been a couple members contacted me privately to apologize about the matter and hard feelings that came from it................ and I thank you too! Finally with Craig's comparison and further discussion of the magnificent Klohn ring with it's period box, I think that the collecting community now has a much better understanding and information of these very special & collectible SS awards.

        Hmmm...

This thread makes my stomach turn... I have the finances to buy an Honor Ring tonight if I wanted to, and another tomorrow morning. I'll never do it, precisely because of the type of stuff that's being aired on this thread.

          JR,
Thanks for P.M. with link. Duh! inscription was already here earlier in this thead!

Anyway, I agree, your "Frank" ring is a stunner. It should be used as an example of a mint HR to be used for study and comparison. Congratulations.

You don't what to let that stop you if you want one. A good ring stands on it's own is undeniable.

...it took me some time to deside if I would post this but I feel I have to.

First I want to state that I do not want to offend anyone with this post but I find it a pitty how original rings are deemed with IMO wrong conclusions.

Years ago I got a TK ring in mint condition directly from the family in Germany. At that time you seldom see TK rings, and no written info was available.
The ring matched 100% of wat we at that time took as standarts for a good ring.

When the written info came available and certain flaws were necessary for a ring to be original ,I checked these with my ring .All these flaws were present.

When Don Boyle presented himselve as the expert on TK rings, writing books and COA's, I decided to take my ring on one of my trips to the MAX and show it to him .

He immediately turned the ring back to me and said it was a COPY... I asked him why and he said "the flaws are not present".

I showed the ring to several other authoryties on the MAX,...no one had a single problem , they agreed that it was one of the best conditioned original TK rings they had ever seen.

This was not the only time I had different opinions than Mr. Boyle on rings beiing original or not...and I also know which are the different flaws to look at...and I'm not reffering to that BIG central flaw, which is the hole to put your finger through.

                    Pieter.

Anybody can believe or not believe anything they want too. If anybody does not need or believe a DB COA then go ahead and buy or sell a ring without it. Who cares, not me. It is just his opinion.Buy the item not the story or the source. If the original owner was positive without doubt that the ring and box are 100% original . Why did he let someones opinion make him lower the price?

Exactly, I agree with you 100%

...because they believe the story not the item....

Pieter is a man of few words but yet, in my opinion, one of the most knowledgeable people I know in this hobby on the greatest variety of subjects. He's too humble to call himself an "expert" and very generous when someone approaches him for an opinion. Thank you for sharing your story, Pieter. Seems like the "no flaw" gambit is not uncommon.

Because he was told that in order to sell the ring it had to have the blessing of the "great" Don Boyle. Not being a regular collector or a person with inside knowledge of how this crooked hobby works he sent the ring off to Boyle with $250.00 for a COA. Boyle took he $250.00 and then tried to screw him by saying the box was fake and tried to buy the set at a much lower price. I am always filled with laughter when someone tells you an item is fake but still wants to buy it.
                            best wishes,

Unless you truely believe it to be a new, high end fake in which case you, as the expert might want to own an example for comparision purposes.......
