They seem un-even for the pattern presented to SS-members of the police. But that odd step seemed to be a standard pattern for members of the Prinz Eugen.

Construction wise, it looks ok to me but this is not my area. It came with a small group of items and everything else was original.

I would not necessarily rule them out Ben, but indeed would have liked the runes to be even-lined up.
Since the cloth appears field-grey, it is no Polizei issue but indeed a W-SS badge. (I have one similar for sale (= on hold) at the insignia E-stand at the moment, perhaps nice to compare).

Nice addition from Joe that the W-SS issue apparently differed, something worth to look into on original photo’s ...

Had a quick search and came up with these photos which confirms the "step" for the Prinz Eugen Div.

Actually this is another variation, cut-out on black if I'm not mistaking. But it subscribes to the fact that Prinz Eugen differed in design.

I have seen several different designs of the breast runes. Those posted above appear to be original.

Not only Prinz Eugen, but also Handschar, late SS-Polizei-Division and other WSS units were allowed to wear the SS-Brustabzeichen, so I wouldn't call it a "Prinz Eugen design" but one of the different designs used by WSS.
I personally like it.

Can someone give me a rough idea of value please so I can list it on the estand? sorry to ask but I haven't a clue.

I've been doing some research today and couldn't find another like this for sale anywhere.

But actually this is the interesting thing...of course you are right that other W-SS units like Handschar etc used the breastrunes but as Joe stated as "But that odd step seemed to be a standard pattern for members of the Prinz Eugen", appears to be correct if I check period photo's. All Prinz Eugen members I saw worn either the black 'cut-out' version or the full cloth covered ones with indeed un-even runes, in stead of Handschar for comparison who worn mainly the even version!

Of course I can't state this for a fact as in a general rule, but is this indeed what you implied Joe? I would never have realized this!?
Could this be some quartermaster issue then?? One would not expect such a subtle difference in war time, both in logistics or common sense...

Yes, it's very interesting (for some). This one single item has lead to a whole day of research for me but still, no definite answers out there as yet.

It also lead to other areas of research that I never would have considered before as well.
