I wonder if they ripped the label off because it gave the game away,5 numbers, silly code letter etc ? Ditto Greg,I thought the lions were all in metal, pinned through the base tab.(which also looks a funny size/shape in this case)

I know nothing about SS insignia but I am pretty sure that the lions also came as this one; embroidered. Any other comments for Norwegian?

None of the sources which I have (Angolia etc) show an embroidered version of this patch and the only embroidered ones I have seen are repros. However, this patch does appear to be better made than most repros, if a slightly unusual shape. Did Delta make these? Interesting.

            Collar Tab

I agree with Baz, its maybe a little too square, but the embroidery does look pretty good, as IMO does the buckram backing, and looking at page 63 of the Peter v lukacs/Krawczyk book, Waffen SS uniforms and Insignia, it does state the first pattern was stamped metal, but the later pattern was machine-woven in grey thread, and some versions omitted the axe. The tab was then replaced with the ss runes when they became part of the wiking Div. I dont personally know if it fake or not but hope this helps!

              Hi,

In my opinion this item is a repro. I have seen it in eBay numerous times. I have spoken to Norwegian collectors regarding this item and have been told that is no good.
This style shield is extremely rare. I have only seen one that is German made. I hope that I'm wrong.

              Kindly

Below are two Norwegian tabs from a friends collection. The top one is localy made. I only like the bottom one with the metal insignia.

The lions are mentioned in one of David Littlejohn's books, he also states that there are two types of the lion, one with a crown and one without. Maybe Norwegian could tell us the story behind his tab.
                    Cheers

                      Hi again!
I just looked up in David Littlejohn's Foreign Legions of the Third Reich Vol.: Norway, Denmark.

The lion I posted for Norwegian were worn by the SS-frw Legion Norwegen (if it is original though), and the lion posted by Rene Chavez was worn by the Norwegian SS-Police Companies.

I would have to say thought...it is an intriging piece of insignia. The thing that has me keeping an open mind to it is that it is a misshappen piece..like it was made to fit a collar's angle exactly. I think if a faker was going to make one..at least more than one of these, they would have made sure the shape was proper..not like this. I also like the detailed embroidery. It is one where I would have it in my "maybe" box as long as I got it at a reasonable price.

Hello and thanks for the interest of my tab!

This type did came in a embriod type, and the pics that Rene shows also come from me. Its ok that you show the pics Rene, but next time ask me first!
Both of the tabs that Rene show come from Norwegian veterans, and ARE not any postwar fakes!

I usualy dont buy this things if im not hundred prosent sure it came directly from a veteran. Therefor im verry unsure about this item because its not from a veteran.

I will soon show a pic of a Norwegian wss that wear this type of tab on his collar!

                            Hi Norwegian,
Sorry for posting your tabs. I did not know that they were yours or else I would have asked permission. A while back another Norwegian collector sent me the images thinking that they were his.
Concerning those style tabs I've only seen the German made ones but is like any foreign volunteer legion items most were locally made.
Looking forward is seeing this style tab being worn on uniform.
