I agree entirely but you can understand why some would be skeptical.

Thank you Lorenz for the photos, what an incredible tunic!!!

      1. The tunic obviously belonged to a German officer - hence the old fighter chevron.
      2. With the rank this high, I will try to trace the person down. One name that comes to mind right away would be Oscar Kopp. He wore a tunic with a lion tab, but note that pips on his rank tab are far apart - the same way they are fixed on this tunic too - perhaps its Kopp's second tunic?

      3. Would be great if we could get a nice front photo of the tunic - too much light distorts the overall picture of this beauty!

      4. I am wondering why the arm eagle is for enlisted man?

          Thanks for the infos Askold,
Often the field tunics worn by the SS officers , specially the enlisted ranks tunic factory done, with modifications or not, were worn by the officers with theyr factory made rzm eagle on the sleeve.
It's clear that a field tunic wasnt so important in apparence how the best tailor made.
There are also some pictures of Peiper with M36 EM tunic with enlisted ranks rzm eagle, so can be also in this case.
In the Kopp picture he have the tailor tunic...could be interesting to know the size measures of kopp, maybe they fit with the tunic posted in this thread.
Of course I will manage to have the tunic in hands and post better pictures, I just waiting the owner return back from holiday..

Wow, that's one rare tunic if everything checks out..

On the shield itself,,Maybe its just my monitor but the shield looks a little short compared to Bobs... I don't think Bob has ever posted dimensions for his for whatever reason so maybe to confirm you can send shield dimensions to him for comparison to be 100% sure...

Interesting tunic, maybe he distanced himself from the whole tunic completely before surrender or just left it in the office/barrack. It is hot in Italy in May.
I would like to see this one researched also.

Here is my original shield same one as Bob's next to the well known repro. The dimensions from the yellow outline is 44mm x 66mm. The dimensions will varie depending if the sleeve shield is new or used. I have seen other sleeve Galizien shields like the one posted to me it sure looks original.

Regarding the shield size - Galician bevo shield was produced in two sizes. My friend has two galician shields in bevo on gray-green background, one is larger than the other.

P.S. Rene, both shields in your photo look to have the same dimensions, however the shield on the left is placed few milliliters lower, so this creates illusion the one is bigger then the other.

I believe a gray one was shown here once, even one with a off white background!.
Askold, it could just be different size because or wear/stretch, or even getting wet. The exact shield Rene shows is at the big shows here in the US , they are synthetic materials and just a little shorter..

We all have our own beliefs..My own beliefs are ,even when studying period photos of the shield you can see they are the longish type compared to the stubby repros.
That all the authentic shields whether real 'Bevo' or 'Bevo like' are artificial silk which is rayon and still a natural material /fibers despite the name...

It was found in the early 80' in Prato, for the recicling wool, in this exactely condition it look untouched, and it was in a private collection since was found.
Some more pictures of the front side and construction insigna details.
