Big mint unissued hats tend to be "round" when never worn. I once had a nice mint panzer em hat in size 60 and it looked round sitting on the shelf. If this SS hat was on a head, it would take on a normal shape - even the peak would rise up a bit.

Well, the peak may rise up a bit with wear unless you have a Sloped forehead...but since were talking about the SS we can safely assume high Porpoise like foreheads packed with ubiquitous amounts of Grey Matter.

        - height of the letters "SS DIENSTMÜTZE"

          Nor I.

Here's the RZM tag in one of my SS visors, although this one dates a bit earlier than the example offered for sale on Oakleaf (which, by the way, appears to be a really great piece!)

                  Cap

I stand corrected on the "ROUND" shape. There was just one posted on the forum that looks really round. Not worn - makes sense to me. Thanks.

Also, if you have a look at the visor in the link I posted in post #19, there is a shot taken looking head-on at the bottom of the cap and you can clearly see just how round it is.....

Pascal, the mesurements of the early SS RZM tag of the cap you posted pictures of are 10 cm for the lenght of the black liner (10,5 cm in total) and 4,5 cm for the width of the black liner. These indications are not accurate to the millimeter considering the difficulties to reach the tag.
                      Best,
                      François

A cap is potentialy suspicous because it's too "round" ?!

That's a new one on me.

                          Cap

Read my last post - I was wrong - I was probably blinded by my dislike for Allgemeine caps that are perfectly formed. As a former US Marine, I even disliked the Marine version for the same reason. As for the cap in question - I often bring up questions about items, but that doesn't always mean I feel the item is incorrect. I mention it because I'm unsure.

Me too but I think the "round" issue is a red herring. The tag on the other hand, as you pointed out, does look huge in comparison to the cap. Maybe something to be concerned about or maybe nothing. Worth investigating though IMO.

here with a better shot of the tag : the white thread does'nt glow...
I await dimensions of the black edge on the oak leaf cap cap tag, but seams OK for me...

                              (Thanks Zimzum77 )
