GFM Manstein Order to SS Totenkopf Panzer Div

    Hi

    Greetings from Florida!

I just picked this order up and did not think much of it then more then an informal doc.

My Mom is a native German speaker and seen it and found it very strangely written using the word Mordkerle and the end of it saying " I have nothing more to add to this order".

I also cannot make out who signed this, of course its not Manstein, hopefully its not Joe Blow from Newark NJ.

    Any thoughts on this?

    Best
    Dion

The translation of basically "Bravo Totenkopf, You are asskickers" is wonderful if it is indeed real.

      Hey Johnny,

I figured that much of course. Iam just wondering why this is a befehl?

        Hi Dion,

This exact text is replicated in one of the early SS books - perhaps "Wenn Alle Bruder..". So I presume that it was sent - but can't comment on originality of the one presented here.

The last sentence was, as I remember, the comment of the Division commander - which would have been Priess at the time.

My sense is that this is a poor copy based on the text in the book - the stamp is not right and the signature, given that the Division commmander appended a line to Manstein's original document, should be Priess's and not Manstein's.

          Hi Mike

Brilliant input, and I mean that in the best sense and not sarcastic. The strange thing about this is it was in a group of ww2 American militaria and was not being offered in any monetary value at all. I have a connect in Florida that does not specialize in militaria whatsoever and this was about to be tossed out until I seen the paper behind a bunch of WW2 Army Air Force wings. I did notice the runes 1st off and then that the OKW stamp was a kind of different. The font and grammar is fine with me-Iam not a paper guy butwith my gut with handeling combat badge and paper from The Germans the paper has the proper aging etc..etc. I mean even the smell and tip of the tongue test passed for me. I have seen the fakes back in Germany with period paper and so on but this one passed for me,,,,you might be right but if I found this randomly as I had back home in Germany from a houseclearer, id pull the wallet out.But as you say the stamp alarmed me a bit.

Also what alarms me is if that is the exact text being quoted, would maybe Mansteins staff had sent this out a bit more to other Divs?

          Best

Whoever typed it would have been told off for abbreviating 'Panzer' as 'Panz.' instead of 'Pz.'. I would strongly doubt its originality.

              The document is fake, sorry!

Look at the stamp for example, typical forgery.
