ok I'm confused. I've followed threads on ZAs and read among other things that 1) serial #s should by hand-engraved and that gahr alone used the thicker outer ring.

but the one now on the Guild by the other maker - hofstatter - has RAISED numbers - obv. put there when the pin was made. the pin in hayes' book conversely is a hofstatter but has thicker outer ring. seems questions still surround
      these civilian pins.

(hmmm now looking again at the pic I posted I wonder if this is a dagger grip emblem b/c is looks too small....) will post a pic of the back if I can get one.

The pin was called SS-Zivilabzeichen. The numbers on the back were not the purchaser's SS serial number. It was simply the consecutive number of the pin issued by the SS-Personal Amt. The number on Gahr pins was engraved, but the Hoffstatter numbers were impressed into the pin.

The pin at the web site had impressed numbers and manufacturers name.

It says so in the text.

It looks raised because the image is taken from a scan, but it is in fact not.
