Very good observation on the cockade.

However, the green section marked by bnz. 42 is what I mean.

See some ss cut caps here:

    http://www.germanmilitaria.com/WaffenSS/02Headgear.html

And the IMO "textbook" KM coastal arty cap here:

    http://www.germanmilitaria.com/Krieg...s/K001562.html

And this one here shows that a "similar" false piping was used on KM caps as well, this is however IMO not the rule with these caps:

    http://www.germanmilitaria.com/Krieg...s/K006963.html

The cockade suggests use by wehrmacht personal, likely KM coastal arty. The cut to me still is more ss than KM but as I said the cut of caps (and issue of these) worked vice versa.

    Cheers

Yeah after collecting wool tunics you start to notice outlines and patterns in things.Id like to add that Ian noticed it first, and i just focused in on it.

Some of you boys must have x-ray vision 'cause CAP IN HAND, I cannot see a diamond shape. Yes there is a clean wool where the original insignia was but i ain't a diamond shape that's for sure.
Thanks again for all your opinions.

At the fotos of post 30 (by Wewelsburg) its clearly visible - sometimes taking fotos with flash make those outlines / worn / unworn areas better visible than "just" looking at it.

Its a dimaond shape outline - even if not, its way to small for a deathhead.

I've taken the liberty of highlighting what I see as a cockade diamond ...

            Hope this helps.

            Ian.

Since often times insignia GHOSTS will tell us what was once there.. I would say this cap (if original) made by a company whom most of its products where for the RUNIC crowd...

they produced for other service branches..
OR just because a cap was made for a branch of service DID NOT mean it would up there..
OR finally this is a factory SS cap QUICKLY wartime changed (leaving no ghosts)to Kreigsmarine or even possibly HEER useage.. by its wartime owner..the eagle and cockade ghosts would be the same..Its only our assumption by the cut of the cap that it went to the navy.. Maybe another NNAAAHHH they never did that..Billbert

Thanks guys, but my eyes don't see the diamond outline, my black light don't see no diamond outline, my computer screen photos don't show an outline and my poor wife sees no outline either. Two sets of eyes on a cap in hand and cannot make out a diamond shape! I like the cap and am going to buy it.
A cap in the hand is worth a dozen in cyberspace.
Thank you all for your observations though.

The cockade ghost is really quite obvious in the photos IMO. Sometimes photos bring out subtle details the naked eye can miss.

Yeah seeing it in 4 pics together like that helps... instead of concentrating on one photo,it brings it out like a quilt pattern. This is teh first time I used that method the "ANDY WARHOL" method Ill coin it! but Im gonna try it on any other related issues like this in teh future of insignia ghosts it really helped here.Hopefully Wolfslair can see it now and save himself some money?
