The badge that started the thread is similar to the graphics on Unit level competition awards for Soldiering etc. There are also things like this design found on the award plaques and marksmanship plates.

It would appear that this badge is, in fact, a Stahlhelmbund item..............worn on the lower left sleeve by members who were ex-army trained infantrymen.Last edited by Robin Lumsden; 05-11-2010, 07:29 PM.

Can't find any reference to him being in the Stahlhelm.
Still, the Dirlewanger collar tab was probably designed by a functionary at the SS-FHA in any case. Maybe he/she was in the Stahlhelm!
