A very humble thank you gentlemen.

Max, Andre is off chasing other Collectibles right now so the stars aligned for this to find it's way here.

Ben you are so right about the cap. It's perhaps one of the rarest SS pieces of headgear out there and it is beyond earth shattering how much this visor oozes character.

The Lotze grouping is easily the pinnacle of my collection, even above my Demelhuber and Deitrich groupings.

I should take up astronomy as the stars never seem to align for me like that with top pieces..... Well not yet anyway.

          Stunning!!!

What fascinated me, over and above the completeness of the group and the items in it, was putting the items in perspective with the combat history of the man. There was the debate about why the tunic he was killed in was in the group, with the damaged woundbadge, but it was actually the tunic that he was wounded in before. He also was not suppose to be actively at the front when he was killed because of his previous injuries, but he went to support his comrades. Doug, I hope I got this correct, my memory is fading with old age. Jacques

AHA so this is the tunic Lotze used when he was wounded the first time and not the tunic he used when he got killed?

Anyway I think this group have to be one of the best SS combat group known in collections.

                  Hi Jacques

It was my understanding that the damaged wound badge was from his first wound which was serious enough to have him posted in non combat duties and had him sent to teaching officer combat training at Bad Tolz and his second fatal wound was while wearing this tunic. I read that his brother also was in receipt of his pants which were so bloodsoaked that they rotted and were thrown away and if I recall there was something about boots as well.

One thing that is certain, he was beloved by his men and reading the account of his act of bravery under fire and leading his men while visiting them on leave is an incredible read. I have many pages of archived research completed on Lotze, I wont have time this week to grab the file but this weekend I will reread the files on him and post any updates.

Hopefully you will get to handle this again in person in the new year Jacques!

                  Cheers
                  Doug

This is in my opinio one of the best groupings out there.

Thanks for a very interesting thread!

                        Doug,

I know the Group know about 6 years and now I´m glad that the Group is in such good Hands and get the honour to displayed so well in your museum.
There are to much collector who hide there items in safes or under the bed and they would never share them with the public or our community.
But after the war there was no place in the German museums to show W.-SS Groups to the public so this is the only way to take part on a fascinating journey back in the past!
Thanks a`lot for sharing us this real part of History.
