    KZ Buchenwald service time plaque

    Hello,

Im not sure if that is the right forum to post.
Has anyone ever heard of a plaque which has been given to remember the service in KZ Buchenwald or any other KZ?

    Thanks for your help

No, but here's an original KZ plaque that was used for shooting competitions.

                  Hello Mr. Butschek,

surely something like that existed - I think about a wooden plate for example.

Most times it will be the work of skillful prisoners, they did a lot of such jobs in the KL´s by the order of the SS.

                  As I can imagine somebody must have offered such an item to you - feel free to post the pics here;
otherwise real help cannot be given anyway.

                  Gruss!

Lots of shooting clubs. Dachau is a suburb of berlin I believe. May be tough to date . kl is always on the assn badges below the elks skull insignia.

                      Dachau Location

"Dachau is a suburb of berlin"

Try about 18 miles northwest of Munich.

It is a fine original shooting award (which has obviously been never awarded) for SS-members (TV) serving in the concentration camp of Dachau - would be even more interesting if it is perhaps a gift for another public shooting where the SS-TV members took part in as official guests - which would explain this as a gift of honour to anybody who won that competition.

That would shed more light on the amazing question how the camp system and the serving SS personal was accepted and intregated by the local communities and society in general and in specific!

                          Thanks for your replies.

Any comments on this plaque are very welcome.
                          The diameter is roughly 10cm.

Very interesting piece for sure - I have never seen a piece like this.
Especially in this field I am sure there is still the most part of history unknown or uncovered - what do we really know about inner details of ANY contentration camp, especially when it comes to pieces like this which only made it´s way within the low numbered circles of involved rulers at that time - and places?

Most historical facts and sources to them survived if there was any contact to the life outside the barb wire and the SS - orders to private runned firms nearby or any other contact to people (officially or unofficially) outside the camp system.

And as we know these contacts were rare enough, especially in wartime and the years of the final solution.
In fact the SS avoided more and more such outer contacts by biulding up their own firms and industries - to gather independence and political and military power.

But all this depended on the people working there, their personal competence, their circles of friends, the behaviour of the "non-SS-people" living nearby.
There were Himmler´s orders and their were private or unconfirmed exceptions.

Buchenwald is well-known for running a larger number of different firms and SS-firms, large parts of it are well documented.

I can imagine that this ceramic plaque is a product of the DAW (Deutsche Ausrüstungswerke) - a widely spread SS-firm runned by the WVHA under the leadership and control of SS-Obergruppenführer Oswald Pohl - prisoners in Buchenwald produced wooden presentation plates, chests, child cradles, any other kind of SS-furniture for different purposes and in different steps of quality, ceramic flower pots, decorated vases, handmade iron tables and massive stoves both decorated with ceramic tiles.

They even had to make a full authentic copy of Goethe´s furniture from the Biedermeier period!

So why shouldn´t they have produced this ceramic plaque as well?

The rulers in Weimar and Buchenwald were Josias Erbprinz zu Waldeck-Pyrmont (Arolsen) and Fritz Sauckel, of course - Sauckel had an immense political influence and Buchenwald was indirectly part of his "kingdom".

Has anyone else seen something like this before?
