For the record here. Two things strike me as markedly different between the "original" and the Winkler example. Others have stated that's it's hard even now to tell the difference. However; here's what I see in the above comparisons:

*A marked lack of detail in the copy.
*A marked lack of crispness in the strike when the copy is compared to the original

Does anyone else see anything different? I can understand how difficult this must have been at the SOS without an original to compare with.

Ohh, yeah... Pity Hermann Historica or Thiese didnt know that...

Some UK MP's urges for a ban though, or at least express repulsion. The latest event I think is an isolated UK thing. It is a lot of politically correctness involved. That wins votes, or at least gives the impression that this or that politician is a person with high morale fighting for "good values" e.g politically correct.

However, it is all in the line of bans by Ebay, Yahoo and some other auction houses.

        Well put!

Yes, that we have seen many times before. Funny also to see how they try to turn illegally owned guns into legally owned ones. The logic behind these bans is likely that a murderer will think twice whether he should murder or not should that require him to use an illegal weapon. Gee.

To the general public it seems all correct, those people aren't noticing that the same "pretend-to-be-the-good-guy" politicians that ban handguns are helping to sell tanks and missles to despots and are responsible for the death of millions in the world.

But as, I think, Stalin said: The death of one man is a tragedy, the death of millions is merely a statistic.

Don't mean to draw the focus off of the thread's actual topic.

        Cheers

Yes, there are numerous things that are wrong with the fakes besides the details. Many things have been pointed out throughout this thread. The entire badge is too big. The marking are completely different. The list goes on...

May I ask a couple of questions?
Why is the example posted by the late W.C. Stump (post #13) the only one with a frosted coating or is it simply the photo?
Further why they needed to be bolted to a formal dress jacket requiring holes and a backing plate?
The originals appear to have more flaws including a cavernous left lower thigh bone when viewing the reverse.

Like every piece of third Reich aluminum insignia, buckles, etc., these badges were also originally finished with the typical silver/gray frosted paint. I would assume that the one that you are referring to, appears extra frosty simply because of the lighting in the picture. Fakes can have this same finish too. Not a big concern in this area, IMO. As for the crossbone detail, the originals should always have more detail everywhere, not just one area.
Study them and learn them, and you will be able to spot the differences amongst the fakes and real badges.

As for your question as to why they needed to bolt them with a back plate, I have not a clue. That's just the way that it was done.

                Hope this helps! Chris

It was front page awhile ago, maybe they've all joined the scoundrel in the Bahamas?
The Doc is back in his subterranean vault slaughtering cattle and enjoying 100 females to every man or was it the other way round. Lol!
The boys with originals have probably gone over to Dr Frankinliebs' lab to have em dissected.

                        Good night Don
                        Good old WAF Yawn!
