Any signs there was ever a sleeve eagle or snaps to hold one on the sleeve?

None Richard. There are numerous pics of Fegelein wearing this type of tunic and he's devoid of insignia in all of them.

It certainly looks original to me.

Here is a similar example for a Heer Oberst also Tailor made. This has been cleaned and was about the same color as yours when I got it. The base material is Flax. IMO the only way to say which service it was for would be based on the original insignia. These were non-regulation very light versions of the summer tunic probably worn by all 4 services.

Back without the buttons and showing the jacket is cut like a normal tunic.

Silver Buttons are attached with S hooks on this one and the pockets are different. Ohterwise pretty much the same idea.

Lenny does all my paining and decorating. I guess the curtain ages me and when we bought the house. That is the basement storm cellar door just so no one thinks it is our living room.

Thanks for posting the tunic John, but I want to make sure we're all on the same page. The tunic you show is cut in nearly the textbook style for a Heer Officer's New Style White Tunic. It has the stand & fall collar, french cuffs, 6-button front (rather than the 8-button front commonly found on these) and yes it's made from a similar material. I say nearly because it does not have the seams on the back, nor the belt support buttons on the back as you mentioned.

I'm not the type to grasp at straws, but I have yet to see a pic of an Army officer/NCO wearing a tunic of the design or material I posted.

To me it is a private purchase tailor-made example of a lightweight summer jacket. If the Kav. insignia is original to it then your explanation has more weight.

I agree John that it's a private purchase summer weight tunic. The question I have is whether-or-not we can say with some consensus that it tilts more towards W-SS than Army? This obviously has a moderate impact on the price. I'm not trying to be greedy, but if this is without doubt Army (which I'm certain it's not) then I think with the SS boards off it should sell for around $500. If I list it as W-SS it will be around $1500ish with the boards.

You have numerous pics of a well known W-SS figure wearing an almost identical tunic, seams above the pocket that would look completely out of place with a pin- or sew-on breast eagle, and lack of cuff slits. I have a hard time believing an Army officer would have a tunic made with design features that run contrary to every other service tunic they wear??

Still an interesting discussion and I appreciate your input.

Either this belonged to a collector {why in the garbage}who put Cavalry boards on it on purpose, since Cavalry were prone to wear white tunics as such,or they are original to the tunic because it indeed belonged to a Cav. man.

From the guys who I knew who lived in Germany back then finding stuff sticking out of junk piles on driveways wasn't that uncommon. If a family was throwing something out I don't think they'd take a second or two to remove a set of boards. The problem is as they are removable and stories aren't worth pooh so I might have a hard time convincing anybody this is/could be a W-SS riding tunic.

                                If I could find a nice W-SS officer's buckle I'd keep it

In any case I appreciate your comment.
