        Hello,
I just got this nice (but quite common, I know) recruitment poster with a face of young Paul Newman
        I hope you like it!

        Regards

Sorry but the Italian Gino Boccasile poster is a reproduction.

            1. The poster should all be in color.
            2. The poster is cropped at the bottom chopping off Boccasile's signature.
            3. The accent over the word "FEDELTÁ" is missing
            4. The word "ARRUOLARSI" has a "D" instead of an "O"

Here is an original for comparison.

These variations popping up on the Anton poster have me concerned as well.

I know one already has been verified that is a post 1945 printing style.

The addresses appear to check out so I am unsure at this point on these variations with recruiting addresses at the bottom.

Personally I would stick to the ones without the recruiting address overprints. Just my opinion of course.

I lean towards that as well.

Harm - do you have any background on where this poster came from?

It was sended to me from estonian correspondant with other estonian SS posters. I have no reason to suspect it is a post war creation. Harm

Just the look of it is enough to put me off. It looks like someone has done it in Photoshop.

Plus there is the additional reason to be careful - so many fakes come from that Baltic region of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. Fakes come out of other places too but those areas are renowned for it.

You need to be very careful with all this stuff as we constantly hear on this very forum.

Gaspare said on another poster thread that he has seen the flea markets in some of these places with fake/fantasy posters by the truckload.

Don't take any of it on face value unless you really know what you are doing.

The experienced vintage poster dealers I am friends with go over these with a fine tooth comb, but even they still get caught sometimes.

There are plenty of poster collectors that are members here we can all ask opinions from.

I'll back you up on that one, mate. I don't want to be rash, but the poster looks like so many of the other fakes coming out of the countries you mentioned. The fonts doesn't look period, the paper looks wrong, and the image is at best bizarre, and doesn't either look period.
The Boccasile-poster shown is also a "known" fake. I have seen it sold many times, but with such apparent mistakes in the language, dull colours and "pre-yellowed" paper it doesn't look much like the original. Oh, and yes if you inspect it closely, I think you will find the typical fake and enigmatic "printing numbers" at the bottom that many of the eastern bloc-fakes have as well. They always seem to be printed in the same sizes too ; 23 " x 33" approx.

Unfortunately I have the fake Boccasile poster. Bought it on ebay back in the day. Seller said his father brought it back from the war. Tony S verified its "fakeness" for me. Oh well... live and learn.

I am sorry to hear that, my friend.
The only comfort I can give is that many have been through it, including myself, but as you say at least one learns from it, and although it's been about ten years since I myself experienced a similar thing, I haven't since then.

                              Hi DTS,

Good to see you still around and hopefully still collecting?

I remember your Italian poster was over on the M-C-F Forum. I think I gave basically the same answer as above.

If I had my way I would have a bunch of those fakers shot so it would send a clear message to the rest. Yeah call me a Nazi if you want...

Thanks for your commiseration... I went through my notes, and found the original ebay ad. It absolutely guarantees 100% its originality. I also found when I questioned the guy about it after it arrived he said his grandfather brought it back after the war. (Didn't say which war.) How people can lie to your face is beyond me. Oh well, $300 out the window. Could have been worse...
