I know of 3 the last two decades in collections. None of them for sale.
I have been offered 2 in the last 4-5 years (same source), one of which was last November.
In that same period I have seen more of the posters on offer that had lesser print runs than the ones that were supposedly mass produced... It would be interesting to know how many are known to exist.
I sold a double of the rare Viking ship Damsleth poster about 2 years ago and I have not seen another one before or since, even though they had a print run of 100,000.
Collecting is a strange game where items may not come up for 10-15 years, and then in the space of a few weeks or months you see several on offer.
Thanks gents. Maybe at some point we can collectively try and find out numbers that we collectors know of that exist for each. May be a bit daunting, but would speak of rarity (or not) for some of our posters.
Just posting a warning about the Anton SS poster on Bill Shea's website.
I discussed this poster with restorers Poster Mountain in California back in 2011. They approached me after being approached by the owner. They did an analysis and concluded it was not authentic.
The cropping of the SS Head Office info from the bottom also is suspicious.
I will do some further checking - but in the meantime my warning is don't buy it......
Just a further note - I'm suspicious of these posters with text at the base since this poster is done by the SS Head Office. The text is often in different sizes and apparently is an overprint on the poster on Bill Shea's website.
