DonC is right, I have several RKT period photos that have had the Knights Cross added after the fact. The photo in question is actually from the Bundesarchiv.

I have seen period altered photo's but I don't think this is one of them...
Look at his face in the two photo's posted, he looks at least 10 years older and 20lbs heavier.... Post war photo and doctored to boot?
