    Col.Heinz Harmel uniform study

Col. Heinz Harmel uniform study (image credit as marked)
Note an SS tab worn in combination with a Standartenfuhrer (Colonel) rank tab!! No doubt a field promotion.

Both collar tabs (besides it being a weird combination) look odd in construction... sub-dued (non shiny...enlisted runes) with no clear silver edge piping!!
Try selling this combination (on an enlisted grade tunic with an enlisted sleeve eagle) in modern times!

Also of interest of course is the Colonel's sleeve eagle on his visor. WOW!

It's a touched up photo, with awards, decorations and promotions added.

I agree, definately the RK was added...that one is the most obvious but they did not "fix" his rank on the uniform....or was that also messed with?

Looks like the internet will now bring us fake photo's to go along with fake items..... What a wonderful future for collectors...

Please take note: During the time he wore this uniform, he was ordered to wear a bucket
                  on his head.

A lot of times the PK's or newspapers would do the 1940's equivalent of photoshopping a photo to update rank and decorations, so they're not necessarily "fake", just "period altered" in some instances.

DonC is right, I have several RKT period photos that have had the Knights Cross added after the fact. The photo in question is actually from the Bundesarchiv.

                            Hi,
Gary how can that be the same tunic unless the collor has been changed.

                              Collar

Could very well be the same Tunic. Germans are thrifty practical People and they replaced worn out collars. Tunics were in short supply during the War as well.
