I have always wandered about this tabs originality,The ship does look very close to the known original.
        Cheers

OK, but how do we know that that one is original?

                Hi Ludwig
I'm saying the viking ship looks very close in design to a original more so than the obvious cheap reproductions.
                Here is my original.
                Cheers
                Dave.

Very nice indeed, but how do we really know it´s original?
Can we see the reverse, please?
Is it a so called Dachau-tab?

Thanks! Sure looks good and from that I must revise my opinion about the officer´s tab.

I think it has a good chance and even better its an officer bullion type, but lacking the silver cord material, so for an NCO...
These were of course never issued but definitely made. I got outbid on a real enlisted type last year... on E-bay amazingly, a US vet bring back, along with some other more common SS insignia.
It has my thumbs up based on the buckram, the material and the assembly= nice, tight and exact pattern as the enlisted ones.

I was wondering about that tab too for some time. The black backing looks alright and so does the shape, but two things bother me:

                          1. If its officer version - why no piping?
                          2. Is it ok for bullion to peel like that? I was expecting the embroidery to be perhaps from silver wire.

The bullion tab in question was owned by me for a long time but I had to move it a few years back to fund other items. It is original and would be for an NCO as there was no piping. as for the flaking or missing bullion it is normal with age. Just take a look at some of the well worn officer bullion tabs and you will see the same loss of bullion. I do wish I had the tab back. maybe some day...

The lack of piping is no problem itself. I have seen many runes tabs without the officer´s piping. Also EMs collar tabs with officer´s piping (on field tunics).
