I posted a rather unusual pair of winter trousers for debate, which did not go very far, then a portion of the thread was deleted in some sort of freakish forum implosion. IM still hoping for more feedback. I dont mind if they turn out to be hungarian/estonian pre/during/post war, just wanted to start a thread with a period pic and what I still believe are the type of pants being worn by the SS Norge division. In the end, the forum is still fun, and I enjoy it greatly, and it is a great way to learn, and I've added some fantastic pieces to my collection and met some great people.

So, seems that the problem is the WAF forum...

      What's the big secret?

      Best Regards
Yes, I have also registered there and I like it! But I think within a while, when that forum gets bigger, it may see the same problems. Yet that stage is just too small for the self-exposers. Just wait and see what happens when they feel there is a audience to applause when they pull their stunts ....I hope I am wrong though!

Another problem may also be the technical difficulties that occur here on a regular basis. But then again IMO this has nothing to do with why the "great" collectors stay away.

      Cheers

So what he hurt your feelings, now what "I will not play with you boys"? C'mon Do we collect butterflies and flowers or war memorables. If they feel not to participate in discussions, be it IMO. We still have a lot of good and advanced collectors here (i will not call names, you know them self)
No, I don't think they think of themselves as "too great" maybe in some cases but not generally. There are a number of names that could be listed up. People that have great knowledge and just don't come back here anymore or drop by rarely.

After all I think it is about if you think that people are fair with you or not.
One must not forget that beside all the knowledge it takes also some time to explain this and that and when you then have someone that obviously has no clue and based on that doubts what you have to say...well, I think you could get tired of it. And I have seen some very unfair people here that disregard facts just in order to create a stir.

But again, that is a problem many large forums have to deal with.

        Cheers

        Fritz

            Hi
IMO the biggest challange of the forum is to detect self elected ss experts with a non experience group of hengarounds wich actually has nothing to show us then a thumb down without a good explanation.

This has made previous older collectors with big knowledge and collections to stay away.

I had a visor wich an a@@nd his hangarounds ruined my tread and sale based on a gut feeling. I later found out that he did so just because he hates the dealer wich I got it from.
Get me right, a lot of known visor guys had their thumb up back then but the tread was ruined.
It was shown again later with thumbs up all the way...

The forum does for several reasons, and for good and bad colored as a U.S. forum.
Exsamples are: One can talk about german warcrimminals but if mention U.S. then the tread is automaticly political and closed.
I do not remember other then "U.S." only regarding sales.
The abowe should be equal for all members wherever they come from.

              Well said!

Here is a perfect example: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=314135

Threads like this makes me stay away from posting items from my collection anyway.

Especially when you try to help and also show some items from your collection it can be a hassle after all when you draw the attention of a narcissistic know-it-all. I remember very well the way some of the older collectors were treated by some members.

                  Fritz and Jotuntroll,

Well Said, and dead on !!!! I am finally glad to read where someone is pointing out the problem on forums. This is the main reason that several of us advanced SS collectors do not participate anymore, why should we, this forum and others like it, already have your so called "SS experts". I am not saying that I am an expert by any means, but I have been collecting for a very, very, long time and own or have handled numorous original wartime pieces. When we try to say that something isn't right, or it is bad, then these "SS Experts" try to argue or discredit us. This, to me, is why we remain silent. I truely enjoy this forum and I usually am on here every day, but I rarely comment anymore. It's just not worth the headaches and the waste of my breath trying to explain why something isn't right or wrong to someone who just is unwilling to accept what is being told to them. I will just look and read and let the "SS experts" run the show. Regards, Grant

                    Hi,

I do not consider myself an advanced SS collector, but I have in my collection a couple of things that are nice and original (obersharf.tunic, dot jacket, dot pants,AH cuff tittle,M43 visor cap, Shirmm, M42 helmet etc, etc) but I don't post them here as I know that someone would point out negative points, and that piss me off.

                    cheers

There only one SS forum at W.A., is called the Tony Barto SS forum(in honor of a great and admired collector/historian on this subject), in there you will find most of the SS item for discusions/items for study and review.

Sometimes because of it's category, SS headgear can also appear in the "Soft headgear Forum" and "Helmet Forum" sections here at W.A. forum.

                            Hope it helps!!

That about says it all. many feel inclined to give an uninformed opinion just because they can. I put up a great vet bought cap I got right from the vet himself along with a bunch of great guns and other items. Because it was something most had not seen before I was personally pilloried even though privately the some of most respected collectors not on the forums told me there was nothing wrong with it. Who needs the agravation? The forums are fun and often informative, but the misinformation, personal agendas and brazenly outspoken ignorance can nullify the benefits. This keeps the top old experts away as they don't need to deal with this crap in the first place or teach the uninformed so the collecting community suffers as a whole.
