Yes it is, and quite wellknown IMO!

The doubble stitched inside pockets a la Janke are a dead giveaway that the wrapper is not original.

Yes a nice original eagle - too bad about the tunic though.

Did you pay much for it?

The eagles alone go for $2000

I don't care for this wool at all. It is fairly typical of Jankes. With the nap on its passable, but when it wears off the underlying weave of the wool looks too rough and haphazard, not as fine and uniform a weave as WWII German wool. The back of the collar is sewn different than the later Jankes, but those double stitched pockets inside are indeed a dead give-away.

No SS panzer boards to salvage, but maybe they are real Heer panzer boards. The eagle however, as pointed out many times, is VERY salvagable. Too bad we didn't get to see whether the tabs and cuff title were any good or not...Mel, were they removed by you, or did the wrap come to you in this state?

Mel...I very much appreciate your bravery in throwing this wrap to the wolves, especially Jacques with his keen insight. I sincerely hope you are not into it for a huge sum of money. The eagle will allow you to recoup some if you are not inclined to keep it. Good luck in your collecting and know we have all had to sort out many mistakes from our collections.

Hi Richard and all other who gave their valued opions,

It is great to be able to use the WAF as a place to obtains opnions on articles as that saves of anguish and money. More so as I want to feel 100% comfortable with the articles I am selling that they are original and war time.

This uniform set indeed would have costed a fortune, but luckely I had not paid the supplier as I had a deal that I could obtain opinions first before making the payment. I do purchase on a regular base from the seller and he normally has great material, so I can make these kind of agreements.

The problem when buying on a larger scale is that you are often in locations which are not too well suited for making thorough inspections and you have to decide rather quickly. Also as I normally do buy more items in a go, this makes it more complex. Having brought back the number of suppliers really helps.

Thanks a lot guys; I really appreciate it!

This is an old trick and as noted by Krieg 777 and an effective one. Most people can spot fake insignia but do not know the clothing items and construction etc. That said some of the insignia coming out now is very very good. I am a lot less confident now on anything. IMO this set is a repro dating to the mid/late 1980s I remember uniforms like this being sold by German dealers (e.g., Wolfram Diebel) circa 1986.
You are 100% correct this tunic looks just like the one I bought from that pos Wolfram Diebel in the early 80's.The sleeve eagle on mine was the well know fake that came out of Austria that you see know as orig.Diebal was (I thought)my friend untill I found out ALL the items he sold me were 100% fake. However I did go too Pensburg West Germany with a friend and I got all my money back. This pos is dead now but while he was around he put out ton's of fakes and riped off a lot of well known dealers. When I showed up at his little shop he was oh so sorry and we even got drunk as he told me how he used different tailors too make the Janke tunics and paints look and feel real and how he got his insg and medals out of Austria. This thing was a piece of work and riped off a lot of people.

                Enjoy your hobby

I Have Noticed That The Majority Of These Old Panzer Officer Fake Wrappers Always Have Loops For The Dk.
