S.S. Banner discovered in bag of old uniforms!

First let me just say......some guys live a charmed life!

I just received these photos and a hysterical phone call from a fellow collector. Seems my buddy just discovered this flag / banner in an old bag of containing a bunch of U.S. uniforms. Maybe he'll come in later and tell more of the story? But for now here are some photos of his lucky find!

    Enjoy,
    Howard

    Banner details.

About 5 foot long, and 2-3 foot wide.

Steel grommets in each corner, all of which are very rusty.

    Single sided, wool construction.

I'll post more details when I hear back from him.

                      Banner

Odd almost wool blanket type material used for a banner??
Anyone have any thoughts about that?

I was told the same thing by George Peterson and another guy from Calif.last name Johnson can't remember his first. Both George and Mr. Johnson as well as Daniel Liptak at the first MAX show told me this. George and Mr. Johnson had what they called orig. ones and they did not have a gromet and were very heavy in overall weight.I do not know if yours is orig. or not I am only repeating what I was told.

                        Enjoy your hobby

If it's one sided and looking at the construction (especially the way the runes have been sewn) my guess is it's been made in a small town by a local seamstress rather than in a factory.

it does look nice, but i dont like gromets or material, do a search here, no one belives they were period manifactured. im still a no on this, and like peter said, wool isnt practical is it
