The runes on the bar that started this thread would appear to be a filed down version of the ones on Peter's site...both of which are fake.
Here is a pic of my SS bar for comparison..
Nice bar Robin and properly done with the police long service ribbon... If a man joined the SS in 1925, by the time Hitler came to power on 30 January 1933, this man would have 14 years SS service (1925-1932 would be 7 years and then doubled for the "Years of Struggle"). But the SS long service awards weren't instituted until when - 1938? And then when the war started they ceased awarding the SS long service medals. So I guess some of the 'old timers' would be eligible for the 12 year medal --- and those I would expect to have been WWI veterans and have appropriate medals.
..and its interesting how his small ribbon bar doesn't reflect his EK2, OST or likely other awards....
Bill.
Technically, any war ribbons worn through the buttonhole were not supposed to be worn on the ribbon bar at the same time. This rule was often broken, but the guy here has stuck to it.
Apart from Himmler, Otto Kumm is the only other officer whose photo I have seen with the runes on the ribbon bar.................in the middle of the bar on this pic.
