    3 SS armbands

    1. Can you tell me when this one is from, i.e. what does the tag tell about the maker, or date of maker, if anything?

    2. What about the same information with this one?

    3. This one has no tag, so I doubt there would be much you could tell about it.

    Thanks,
    Ron

Well the first one was made by maker 630 whoever that may be and in 1936. The second one has the earlier rzm tag, maker 275 and I would guess made around 1938 or so. The third looks kinda funky, but I am no SS brassard expert.

For that matter, without better pics, I'm not sure about #1 either.

So the fact that the ribs are running horizontally and the roundel is not oval on #2 don't bother you?

No, I have seen them both ways. They usually are vertical though. But to be sure one must handle it in person to determine if the materials are correct.

Need pics of the inside showing how the roundel and the stripes are stiched.

I'm pretty sure #2 & #3 are fake. The Pakistanis turned out an entire series a few years ago with horizontal ribs until someone told them to fix it. Now they are making damned scary good repros.

I wish I could get my brand new Hanes t-shirts that white (even with bleach). Rayon is a natural cellulouse substance and will yellow with age. Professional wedding gown preservers can only dream of keeping any kind of fabric that white after 70 years. That's probably the next thing the Pakistanis will come out with (yellowing).

And the #'s on the label on #1 are rather sloppy. The wool is very coarse as well. Wool RZM armbands from this period used a very high-quality wool.

And they should all have that nice, old, TR smell.

Either one side of this debate's wrong OR it's time to quit collecting these !

For what it's worth I like #1, would give #2 a good chance and dislike the sloppy swastika and super-white roundel on #3.

                        Photos and scans

Here are the photos of the backs of the 3......followed by scans of them. The photos are with a Nikon D300 with a 60mm Micro Lens with flash and handheld. I do not go to the trouble of tripods etc..

I think a few facts would possibly help you guys in your debate with each other.
                        1. I have not been an active collector since 1985, and I had all of these for several years before I quit active collecting. The most recent one I obtained was #3, which I have had for about 32 years most probably....maybe a few more. #1 is the one I have had the longest.....possibly as much as 50 years and #2 maybe as long as 40 years. So the theory of something out of Pakistan in the last few, or even several, years is not a possibility.
                        2. I didn't get any of these from dealers or collectors, and likely paid nothing for #2 and #3. I know I paid nothing for #1 and remember the vet who gave it to me. I was glad to get it even with the moth damage.
                        3. I don't really remember where #2 or #3 came from......but I would guess vets or their families as well. I never bought anything SS from dealers or collectors. Too many repros were out there even that many years ago.
                        4. I am not in the debate because I have no doubts that they are real, and they are not for sale.....so I have no concern about potential buyers.

                        Have fun,
                        Ron

In the paranoid world of TR collecting, I bet not all will agree with you........in fact that is a large part of why I quit collecting around 1985!
