yes it does look new in pic but actually in the light of day it doesnt, evey 1 of these i have seen a pic of seems to look new even in books i dont know if its the flash or the material that the circles made of that makes these look new in pics but i can tell you its an off white in colour and the wool on rear is a bit worn but doesnt show up too good in pics and it certainly doesnt smell new,oh and i have had it under a uv light and theres nothing glowing, except my wallet and if it turns out a fake i will have had to stay in a few weekends for a dud,and my am i gagging for a night out on the town ,yeeehawLast edited by sscrooge; 03-10-2006, 05:35 AM.

I can't find any fault with it other than the white is so bright.
I have been trying to find a source for a fake this good and I can't find it. So either it is a big secret, or they don't exist.
But, rayon (the white circle) typically yellows over time (it is cellulose) -- no matter how well it is kept. Every RZM SS armband I have had was slightly yellowed. Perhaps it is just the picture.
Perhaps there is a cloth expert out there who can explain how rayon could be kept for 60 years and stay this white.
This weekend I will take a scan of my unissued armband next to a white t-shirt so you can see the difference.
Also, can you post a super-closeup of the white circle so we can see the details of the ribbing?

Based on the last image, where certain features appear in sharper relief, I believe this is a well made fake. Un-issued examples have endured, to be sure. The Grundtuch looks somewhat off; and the Hakenkreuz, itself, is also not 100%. More shall I not say, other than to repeat the somewhat frustrating stricture that these images are insufficient for brassardology of a water proof kind. I know it is frustrating, but it is also the truth. The colleague with the comparison with T-shirts knows whereof I write. These well made fakes seem to be proliferating, in fact. Elsewhere the mention of dealer's names has caused eruptions, but Maederer, Shea and G. David generally strike me as having authentic ones of these, but I surely doubt whether they are really worth in excess of USD 550 or up.... Once more, I am not in the business of pumping someone's wares, but I do watch these sights with care, and such is my own opinion for those eager to secure one of these things.

I concur with our colleage Abenheim with regards to this kampfbinde. My initial reaction was that it was a period piece. Upon further examination, I find the manner in which the circle is stiched to the red cloth to be lacking in the symetrical pattern I would expect on a period made piece. These copies are just geting better and better. Needless to say, the makers of this piece are likely monitoring this site for our comments.
