Wow that counts for a lot then. They MUST be fake. If we all collected based on that idea (the "textbook" or nothing method) then where would we be..

A lot of the "big boys" as you put it handled (and collected) CR SS helmets, they were once "textbook" originals - just look now

Just because something has been "known" (very different to proven!) amongst collectors for a long time as fake (or original, as above) does NOT mean it actually is, and not open to further investigation. Fact.

The same caliber of "big boys" that endorsed the champagne decal, indeed.

I am not trying to discount anyone's experience here, but there are many collectors out there that don't haunt forums, and also have considerable experience. I'm interested in finding out the truth on these smocks, nothing more.

Why is length & size such an issue ? What is important is perseverance in any matter and that applies more than just "Birch"smocks

"When Colonel Sanders was 65 years old, he received his first social security cheque of US$99 (S$170). He was broke. His only asset was a secret fried chicken recipe. He left his home in Kentucky and traveled to many states in the United States to sell this recipe. He offered his secret recipe to many restaurant owners for free. All he wanted in return was a small percentage of the sales.

Over 1,000 restaurants rejected his offer. How many of you would have quit after making one or two unsuccessful sales calls? On his 1,009th sales visit, one restaurant finally accepted his offer.

Today, Kentucky Fried Chicken outlets are a global empire and Colonel Sanders one of the most recognised people in the world. "

We have come along way on this thread. Like it or not, much has been discovered about these SS smocks, several myths have been laid to rest and some still remains to yet be found,

Oh my God , it was such a simple question?
"..and how was the printed sleeve eagle authenticated?"

Guys, I used to own one many years ago before I upgraded and always had a good gut feeling that these are correct and originaI.
I regret letting it go back then. Perhaps some one can sell me one after NZMark.
We'll done boys on this extensive detail analysis , with common thought out sense and logic behind your argument that these are original.
Innovation breeds success and that's one thing the Germans tried hard to get right, scientific and eperimental thinking ahead to be prepared. Many of their designs did not make it into production for use before the wars end, but we can prove that they existed in some way, shape or form.

Discussion and facts over time. The photo of one in wear, after decades of speculation, authenticated it.

And for decades prior, it was scoffed t.

I don't think so, Owen. Cloth collectors include uniforms and caps, of which I have hundreds.

The variations are seemingly endless, among all the services, including SS.

And equally how were the G43 pouches from the East authenticated ?

because no-one believed in those or had a photo,

                            Disco Partisan,
I let mine go for around $500 over 20 years ago. I don't really need another example so that I can say I have two.
However, if one came in at a price I could afford, I would definitely consider it, no question.
I would rather put my $5k towards something I don't have and really need.
                            cheers

well if that is so fool-proof then why could they not work out the HBT of the pockets ?

                              It is important for all to have a clear out-line and understanding, if they are to successfully identify the types of HBT being used by the Germans and other Axis members of the Third Reich;

1/ HBT fiber that it is made from "Cotton" is much tighter and "thinner" in feel and neater in appearance.

2/ HBT fibre made from "Rayon" is a whole different matter but is often found in that pattern with varying degrees of sheen.

3/ HBT fibre made from "Flax" ("Linen") is (thicker ?), raw, rough, semi-unfinished, ersatz & blended.

4/ HBT fibre made from blends involving 1&2, 1&3, 2&3, all three, other ersatz materials utilised.

The result, HBT "determined by the fiber that it is made from". Each type is different in "thickness, feel and look" from other types as the images in post numbers 1479 & 1458 illustrate,

                              Chris
