However, it was quite amazing what they could smuggle out of Russia. One M40 combat jacket still had all the Germans papers and awards in it including a very combat worn S&L Type A KC. In fact after one deal, my friend found US$10,000 in the pocket of one of the Soviet army jackets. We figured it was probably the guys life savings and took it back to him. He was very thankful/ gateful After that, he always had a nice German WW2 or even WW1 item for us, every time, no trouble. Always smuggled out of Russia. Always to say thanks and no German WW2 item with fake Russian stamps at the time only real stamps from where they were stolen from. Always a discount if Russian stamps on German items.

I live through those times. I saw what it was like before the 1980's and after,

    Chris

Well I am sorry to break the news to you Jack,

but some circles you were just not part of or welcome in at that time. However, you are right about one thing, there was no Soldbuch.

Here is the description and images of the the KC when it changed hands in 2000. Sadly it was all broken up to get the most money and I was not lucky or fast enough to get the K.C.

I will see if "ebony" will post later to tell you the story of the money. There was another guy called John who was also part of it all. He became good friends with the Russian involved, went over to vist them in the 1990's and wound up getting married to a Ukrainian girl. I remember him telling me how on one visit, he took over the biggest bottle of Johnnie Walker "Black Label" money could buy for his future father in law. They finished it off in one night and also another unknown Russian brand.

The good old days of the advertisments in the "RSA review" for you Jack that only too often you bang on about,

          Chris

              No Owen,

you might be on to something. If we can find a Pink (Silver Birch ?) with Korean camo in it then that might just have solved the whole thing.

However, I would like to see one because no-one else on either side of the coin has seen one with Korean camo. You did say that you had seen it on several (see quote post number 1103) so they must be out there some where,

I still don't believe you " Good honest veteran pick up" yeah right. I knew a guy who had a shop in Bluff and he used to buy anything off the Russian fishermen Russian uniforms, flags, belts, tins of paint anything that wasn't bolted down. But no WW2 German stuff as I asked him, but nothing.

As for Russian property stamps in WW2 German clothing, we'd never heard of them back in the early 80's. We had only knew of Hollywood film studio property stamps in genuine German uniforms etc. I had a WW1 German Pork Pie hat with a film company property stamps one time.

Well go and see what the Greek in Lyttelton got from them which was their first port of call in NZ. He had a whole shop full of it, Russian, German and everything else in between. Then again he did use to go drinking with them and feed them. May be they were cleaned out by the time they got to Bluff and only still had the crap he did not want.

However, I do agree with you about the Russian stamps and how we just never saw them in the 1980's. If we did see any, like when the "Pinks" (Silver Birch ?) first came into NZ then no-one knew what they were and it added nothing to the item. An SS camo smock was an SS camo smock and that was that back then.

Ever see the Blurred Edge Zelts that came with them and were sold for NZ$300 (US$150) also at that time or less if you haggled ?

Because they had to sell hundred(s) of new and never-seen-before pink-oak smocks. So they could mix a few perfectly original items in "the find" (all with the same markings) and automaticaly no one questions their originality.

triangualer and circular stamps make no sense. The only possible meaning that comes to mind for "Б.И.Л." in the triangualer stamp associates with " Библиотекой Имени Ленина" = "Lenin State Library of the USSR"

Also i find it unusual for russians to use color inks, they usually used only black (sometimes blue), and here we see red and green.

Here is what russian collectors said in summary:

This combination of stamps is bogus (in their opinion).
They also say that only movie studios that had camo uniforms in the SovietUnion were BelarusFilm and KyrgyzFilm. All uniforms were sold to the US in the late 80s and 90s.

The word in the stamp does not match any of these two names. (below note no dashes)

Only four movie studios in SSSR contained "dash(-) in their names (and none of them matches the word in the stamp IMO):
                                1. Gruziya-Film
                                2. Moldova-Film
                                3. South-Siberian Film Studio
                                4. Halychyna-Film Studio

There is a chance that some of these names have been renamed/changed between 1945-1990. If anyone wants to do a research on each of them - all the info can be found on the internet.
