I also agree that some private purchase tunics may have been retailored for other individuals. I have a Heer one like this. It looks to have added about 2” to the sleeve and a reduction in the French cuff. Since I doubt the officer grew taller I can only surmise it was altered for another individual and yes it was all beautifully period done.

KIA, wounded out-processed etc. tailored clothing was reused, high quality cloth from early and pre-war items were in high demand and sought by tailors.

No Offense to any Christians out there (my self included) but religion has no bearing on business so why use that as a Crutch.Someone will take you for a ride as far as they think they can take you before they get caught. Also if you Use John Pics theory about trying to see eagles I believe it works the other way when you dont want to see one either.

"Jr.officers were fitted with a used tunic or one tailored with a breast eagle sitting in a shop and later removed by the tailor it was economically sound and pfennig pinching was in vogue back then.SS officers didnt care they felt they were part of the Wehrmacht" JPic..
The above is so very true. Many of these private purchase officer tunics were not actually custom tailor made but rather "off the shelf and altered...actually many were what is known as semi-custom rather than truly "bespoke" garmets. There would have been a very high chance that some of these would have had a Heer eagle already attached.
I think that Kris's remark about there being NO indication of a breast eagle is also interesting and goes back to what many have said about there being no substitute for a face to face look.

By looking at that Nick all I can say is yes there are marks there in the form of a wreath and I think I see a wing edge..how does that prove a tunic was post war altered? I see Heer tunics get bagged on these forums to all the time because the eagle has sloppy stitching all of a sudden the magic eye says it was done post war..ridiculous.Unless you were there or the person who had it done tells you, you dont know.I really wonder if guys truly think that a guy threw away his old tunics everytime he was promoted or changed service branch from heer to SS or vis versa. A crock of baloney.

John I agree 100%. There is certainly no way to know of it was done post war or wartime based on these pics. That is why I have tried to keep a very open mind on this one. It is also why I said over and ver this one comes down to provenance pure and simple. You take in the chain of custody and how it was obtained and you buy into it or not. It is that simple. For me I still think is has a good chance of being right. I am about 55%/45%, 55% liking it.
