In the pocket was the most unattractive sleeve eagle, which was removed from the tunic. It lines op perfectly with the stitch holes from eagle to sleeve.

I've always loved the 4 pockets made from Italian camo. Heres my example. Theres no story with it.I picked it up from another collector in Germany.He got it from a flea market. I don't collect SS so I put Army insignia on it. These tunics were also popular with the Army. Pic 1

Originally the tunic had collar tabs and sleeve eagle.Of course they had been removed.I'm not sure if these tunics were made by the unit tailors or contracted locally. Its apparent the sleeve eagles were sewn on when the tunics were made,The collar tabs were hand sewn.

Oh I forget the SBs were also on the tunic. Field made using parts from other boards.

I guess that you have made a lot of people cry! Clear traces after SS-insignias and you put on an Army eagle! I love it!

A lot of this material was annexed in Italy, much of it was in the form of shelter sections. Look at where parts of the Italian army served pre (colonial duties) and early war and you will have your answer.

I believe these were probably made sometime between the time Italy changed sides (end 43) to the summer of 1944. Thats only a guess, but when Italy surrendered large stocks of Italian material fell into German hands. Looking at pictures on the Normandy front we see lots of pictures of SS and heer troops wearing clothing from Italian cloth. Probably no coincidence.

There probably is no simple reason to explain the fading. Lots of contributing factors. It could be the base cloth.Certain cloth doesn't lend well to dying. Look at the SS dot pattern printed on HBT vs smooth cotton/rayon. The colors are vibrant on unissued HBT, but once its exposed to wear/weather it looses its color fast. On the smooth cotton/rayon the colors remain vibrant even on heavily used pieces. Other factors like dye concentration/mix, roller pressure etc and weather/age all have to be considered.
Look at the picture of my tunic.Two pocket flaps appear to be extremely faded. In this case the dye application wasn't all that good to begin with.I think the pattern was very subtle even when it was unissued. When you add weather/age into the equation the result is the appearance of extreme fading. Hope this helps.WR Jim

I would love Jim's tunic becasue the colors are so vibrant, compared to mine. Of course, it would be transferred back to the SS.

Even Jim's tunic is not really 'vibrant' but the camo is much more easily seen on his. I LIKE IT!!!!
