Not meant as critics, rather my observations from the photos provided and what I can tell to help the initial poster.
Yes its for sure hard to see from a few photos about the wear! As I said, the tunic have very nice insignias IMHO! What I like to see!

When held in hand, original pieces really give you that warm feeling that you cant get from flat cold photos in internet.

    Interesting jacket.

    Cheers,

Andre IMO a nice tunic with original insignas, only a hands on inspection could tell you more.

There is something unusual about the shoulder boards. There is no numeral(s) attached to indicate the regiment that the person commanded. Possibly the tunic belonged to someone with a training school assignment.

Thats not unusual at all since after the Polish campaign numerals were ordered removed and although some continued to wear them many did not.

I have had the opportunity to examine this uniform with a loop for over an hour. I have to disagree with Sayle F. I don't believe it is a field made piece. I believe in fact, it is a tailor made piece. The workmanship is on a par with any TR tailors work I have seen, if this was field made, it was made by a former tailor in the field. I can't say exactly what type of material it is for sure, a similiar US material is called "waterproof cotton duck". Nothing has been tampered with as this material would leave tell tale traces of it. You can see old double stitch marks where something was taken apart to use the material for a tunic. Concerning the shoulder boards, I have seen way more SS officers uniforms in photos and real life without numbers or letters than with...at least those that are untampered with. It is a fine, rare example of a higher officers light weight combat tunic that is as found, and should probably be priced quite a bit higher. No digital photos will do this uniform justice.
