It looks 'arty" to me. Did you blacklight that photo?

Try pming Robin Lumsden. He knows all about skulls.

Could it have been made commercially at the time not as a cap skull but specifically for photo albums/memorial plaques etc? I've seen Wehrmacht eagles and profiles of helmets that were made for similar purposes...just a thought...

          strange skull

Hello and thanks to all who have contributed, I appreciate it. Here is what the Militaria dealer wrote about it :
" ...There is an unusual metal skull attached to the page above the portrait that is different than any I've seen, but in my opinion is 100% period. It may have been for the cover of an SS photo album, or for an award, but it's a beauty!..." As an aside the photo is said to be SS Gruppenfuhrer Siegfried von Gummann; a leader of the Unterfuhrer school in Stuttgart.

          Thanks .

Hello McCulloh, I just checked the photo of the Gruppenfuhrer and it did not glow.

Back to the insignia, I found the thread with the similar skull I was talking about earlier; http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ight=edelweiss
I'm still convinced this is a fantasy product. (Can't prove it though, so it's just my own opinion)
Hello Anders, thanks for this link--it does look like that -with different color.
              Maybe it's a fake?

              Thanks, MF

I can't find any reference to a Gruppenfuhrer with that last name .....

This is an autographed photo of, I believe, Fritz Weitzel

I've never seen a TK like that either.

It LOOKS postwar..............but it COULD conceivably have been made as a decoration for the album.

It is obviously NOT 'pretending' to be a cap skull...............the design is too different.........but it is well made and executed detail-wise. As has already been said, it looks 'arty'.

There are many examples of 'unofficial' and odd-looking (but nevertheless original) skulls being used for decorative purposes by the SS.

for example the TK stamp found on "SS" P-38s.
"Activity! Activity! Speed! I greet you."
