34 = workshops of the DAW.

Already due to the position and the huge dimension of the DAW workshops it is plain to see how much the SS valued the production of cultural pieces for inner cultural and religious use and realizing a lifestyle of their own.

      Not for everybody.

          Good question!

They had a wide production range and several production places, mostly - if not all - in or near concentration camps and/or their subcamps dependent on the natural resources exploitable at these places.

A very good historical source and reference material (partially visable online!) is an original list and picture album of all possible DAW products which were manufactured at KL Buchenwald.

          Here is the link:

          http://www.buchenwald.de/fotoarchiv/

You will find the DAW Album by clicking:

          1: Provenienz: SS und Polizei
          2: KZ Buchenwald, Fotoabteilung
          3: DAW-Album

Then click the search button on the far right and there you go.

Especially the documented wooden cultural pieces (plates, cradles, Himmler´s chair, caskets, bowls, ships of the German Hanse and other carved pieces) enable us to really see which motifs and dedications were important and in use by the SS to let them create their kind of cult, religion and germanic pagan lifestyle.

Within the war years they paid more attention to produce practical stuff like wooden grenade boxes, ammunition boxes and alike to keep the war machine going, of course.
But still in 1942 they produced several cradles and also rustical massive furniture pieces like closets, chests, kitchen sets and household also for the SS-members and their families being bombed out as well as for SS-buildings and Volksdeutsche settlers and farmers from the eastern territories - via VoMi for example.

Thank you Uli, now I know where that bunker is. I suspect it was built after 1943 as it doesn't appear on the site plan made that year.
I will post a couple of images of examples of the DAW works made at Dachau.
Here is a closer view of the bunker behind the main building that housed numerous functions of the Uebungslager.

Here is what was described as a "ski hut for the Red Cross" built by the DAW works at Dachau. You can see the works in the background.

                  Hi to all!

Some years ago I found this belt on a garage sale (without the buckle!) for 5 euro. The belt is original IMO (Heer or SS, I don't know..).
About the stamp I 'm no expert, but it looks old. Someone has seen this before?

                  Thanks!

I would say added in modern times...original stamps, possibly RBNr (in different front) are visible above it.
They hardly stamped locations during the war (1943!!) ..only in prewar years it was done done...switched to codes ...
I suggest to repost this in the buckle/belt section for more opinions! Nevertheless nice score this late war pattern belt for 5E!!

Could be added, it does make sence not to add a location... But then some fool added a stamp to a perfect late-war belt!

Here you can see recently liberated Russian prisoners being deloused by US personnel. They have been issued uniforms from the clothing stores at Dachau.
The last catalogue issued by the clothing works at Dachau that I have seen was dated 1942 and in addition to all the Waffen-SS items had a fairly comprehensive lisiting of police items and uniforms.

The building that was used to store all the clothing produced by the clothing works is on the right of this picture. The main administrative building is on the left.

And one of the two national eagles (both identical) visable over the gates of that administrative building to the left was auctioned by Hermann Historica in 2006.

They are real massive wrought iron SS cultural items and were manufactured in the SS smithy located in the north tower of Wewelsburg castle.
