I have seen, for example, an unquestionably original Imperial field visor cap, straight from a doughboy's estate sale, with a cardboard visor in about the same condition, though the rest of the cap shows almost no wear.

I agree it is possible but looking at this piece I would say not very probable. If we could see some shots of the inner construction under that sweatband I think we might get a better picture of what this visor really is.

Here would be my first question, seeing the lining is dead mint I would expect it to be sitting in the visor just about the way it left the maker. This is not exactly the typical lining folds you see in TR period visors. Very poorly executed. This is not something that would change with shelve wear or any other kind of poor storage issues.

Someone also mentioned piping. That one is not my area but the weave is a bit different than an original I looked at. The original is on top with the subject visor below.

I hope the owner doesn't mind my sharing of his cap image but this absolutely affirms a 'manufacturing technique'......accepting something other than what is commonly associated is allowing someone in to your wallet.........

I bend very little in my collecting but question a great deal...based solely on the manufacturing!!! I don't accept excuses such as late war and any other 'tale' to explain why something is different!!

          What a great cap!!!!

I do not see such a blouse-up on any of my caps, but yield to Mr. Kane and his submission. I just think the visor is a stretch on this cap, and - well - I would not want to be in the position of reselling it. Frog.
