Would agree insignia seem suspect, not to mention inconsistent wear between visor (cranky, heavily used) and minty cap interior - not for me.

May we have a look under the sweatband?
                    Regards,
                    Dave

Froggie, without commenting on the originality of the cap or insignia-- there is a big difference between cracking/flaking and heavy wear. Laminate cracking/flaking can occur in the absense of wear. This visor IS cracked and flaked but NOT heavily used. Condition is therefore consistent with the interior.

                      Sincerely,
                      Ray

Boy we are getting short with one another. I agree with frog. The cracks on that visor are not consistent with age cracks IMO. The three or four cracks in the front are stress cracks from bending the visor and the bottom edge of the visor is void laminate and paint all the way around. That is not consistent with a nice unissued visor that has aged but with wear. The interesting thing is the nap on the wool shows age also but the interior is dead mint. I would say that is enough of a red flag to keep me away.

No visor expert am I, but is that piping (waffenfarbe) right? I don't think I have ever seen any piping like that.

Colleagues Lucky Duck and NTZ both make good points. I suppose one could argue that this is a most unlikely combination of parts for a stitch-up! In the end, it lacks strong vibes, at least to me.

Yes, stress cracks. Which again are not necessarily signs of heavy wear. A visor can sit untouched for 60 years, then have stress cracks applied to it in half a second by a careless individual. Finish missing from the edge of the visor can be flaking, or shelf wear, as prodruding edges are prone to wear even in storage conditions, and paint does not adhere to the end-grain of a material in the same way it might adhere to a top or bottom surface.

I have seen, for example, an unquestionably original Imperial field visor cap, straight from a doughboy's estate sale, with a cardboard visor in about the same condition, though the rest of the cap shows almost no wear.

                              Sincerely,
                              Ray
