Too few pictures to tell for certain, but from what little there is, I could entertain a doubt.

I will also concur the opinions of our esteemed colleagues. One of the European dealers who is reknown for dealing in this type of questionable material has often offered tunics that look like they have been rolled in the same dirt for about one week. He was also known to "salt" small period trinkets in the pockets.

I've seen this type of nap wear before on Army garmets; I have a late war M43 worn to the same condition. I'll have the see the quality of the wool under the collar and in places of little to no wear to see what it started out like. If the whole thing looks like this, then we've got a problem. But if the nap under the insignia spots is indicative of the wool quality when it was produced, I'm happy.
I don't want a collection of exceptions, but am not worried about matching this piece against what's considered textbook. The collection of reference books are a fine guide, but are written by collectors, no matter how scholarly. If this is a good Army wrapper, and the insignia spots haven't been doctored, then I'm satisfied in that regard. IMO, it's hard to correctly fake wool wear in all the right spots - rolling it in dirt and shoving tickets stubs in the pockets is one thing, simulating wear in all the nicks and crannies is another.
I'll have to get better pictures of the material when I get this piece in hand, and i know it's hard to make any judgement with these limited pictures. In the meantime, any characteristics of known fakes that jumps out at you?

Yes, there are and when/if better pictures can be provided, perhaps a more accurate judgment can be assessed. Until that time, I agree with the comments that have already been offered.
