I agree with the forum members in general. Just another expensive lesson learned. Thanks for feed back everyone. Off to E-stand we go.

I think the whole printed insignia question is interesting.
The late war printed sleeve eagle is just as questionable to me as these goofy printed traps.
There was a guy a few year ago on GDC had one of these same style traps on a gray Dachau cap and he would not believe the possibility it could not be an original.

Like me, the other owner most likely spent a small fortune on a similar cap. It is hard to admit to bad buys.

This is the only example I have ever seen although a do recall seeing a post on a panzer version of this type of cap a few years back. The owner was just as convinced it was real at the time.

I would be curious if there is anyone out viewing this thread who wants to admit they have or had one of these in their collection.

It is better to know the truth, live with it and move on. I just want to let it go and chalk it up to experience.

I know a collector over here that has about 6 grey and black examples with printed insignia, I also noticed there are some differences in there construction some have longer button holes, different types and thickness of linings ect ect
most came from a well know auction house
          cheers

                    Thanks for posting

Thanks Gary for posting these. The construction for the most part is identical!

Does anyone know who produced these? It important to make sure others do not make the same mistake.

As stated in this thread (and just about every reference book), the printed sleeve eagles were produced pre-1945, but there is no photographic or documentary evidence that the were ever issued (much like several styles of volunteer collar tabs).

                          Old thread

                          Hello
I just recently found a panzer one of these. Who made them if they are re-pro?
                          Any new info?
                          Kevin

Are you suggesting that if no one documented when a particular fake was made and by whom that we must consider it as original [real until proven fake]? I hope not.

There are tons of fakes being made right now in large and small quantities around the world. I doubt that any of us is going to take the time and effort to document the makers of such crap. However, decades from now, new collectors will find these same fakes, the makers of which have long disappeared, and want to know if they are original. Sadly, many of them, too, will argue that, since no one at that point can say exactly who made them and when, they must be original, because they look old and there is no documentation to prove that they were made as reproductions. They will ignore the experience of those who will, then, be the old-timeers of this generation, who will tell them they are fakes, because they cannot offer "proof." Pitty.
