These were sold for wear by panzer men.

            Hi Robin
Are you saying this pin is pre-1945?
The needle doesn't look like an old one?

I'd love for them to be good! I've always wanted one but heard a company here in the US has been making them for years.. I saw a few of them on phony LDO cards at the SOS also...Maybe there is a period sales description or even a period line drawing of them?!

The one I have is made of Cupal.........silver plate over bronze over aluminium, just like the manufacturing style of cap eagles etc.I'd post a picture of it, but the 'attachments' facility on the site seems to have a problem at the moment.Skull stickpins certainly did exist pre-1945. I have a Prussian one in solid 18 carat gold, in it's original fitted case. I also have several in silver and plated brass and bronze for the Brunswick and prussian hussars. They shouldn't be attached to LDO cards though, as the LDO dealt only with awards, which these things weren't.

Robin, my skull is a kind of bronze over aluminium too ! I couldn't find silver plate but I think it's possible it was lost during time !?

AJ. My own opinion is that it's original. It's very well made, in the correct way, with very fine detail. Remember.....it's TINY. The soldering of the pin has been done before the final surface finish has been applied. Also, the skull type is a scarce variant of the Prussian TK, not the usual type. The pin doesn't have the 'ridges' that some collectors feel to be essential for originality, but I have seen plenty of 1920s and 30s stick-pins without these.

It's getting hard to tell on these veteran stickpins anymore. Nobody used to pay any attention to these until somebody wrote a book on them. Ever since then you come across all sorts of these -- many of them fantasies! What are they going to reproduce next? German GI Field Toilet Paper?
