The pink smock also has slightly lighter weight material then the regular smock. Frankly I don't know why it would be worth faking them in the late seventies. Originals were available and didn't bring all that much. In addition camouflage clothing was not nearly as prized then as it is today. Not having good reference materials in that era, the fakes did not have to be nearly of this quality to sucker us. We were still fooled by the smocks made from shelter tents with the seams on the shoulders. It just was not worth the time or effort at that point. I sold a vet bought DD SS Normandy camo helmet then for $425.00 and you could buy a dot pattern jacket for about $400.00 and the trousers for about $200.00. Cufftitles were rarely over $100.00 the very rarest bringing about $150.00-200.00.

Collectors will debate the originality of this type of smock for many years to come. Some are convinced that they are reproductions (I fall into this camp), others will offer numerous explanations why they may be good.

One thing remains a certainty, if you want ONLY ONE example of an SS smock, this type will one day be “disposed of” if the opportunity to “up grade” presents itself.

Since I did not buy this smock because of the "is it isn't it " Controversy .the owner (not a WW2 collector or dealer) has asked me to put it on ebay and he will take whatever it brings. Therefore, if you are interested in a nice example of a Pink smock, here is your chance.Good luck .

One thing I will guarentee, is that after this is sold at some point in the future , period pictures of SS troops wearing these will surface. Why? So I can kick myself for not buying it until I die!

I remember back in the 70's when COLLECTOR's ARMORY out of VA had a ton of reproduction german medals , uniforms , helmets ...you name it. So why not back tthen make repops - maybe even ordering them from european manufacturers etc etc. There was also those two other garbage sellers GLOBE MILITARIA and WW2 Ltd. Loads of repro junk from cheap knockoffs to "high end" type quality.
If I don't see it come out of a dusty attic and or moldy cellar.... I would not touch it with a ten and a half foot pole !.

Yes, I remember it also. However, much of that stuff was extremely badly done and would be laughed at today. In those days the reference materials were not available and the fakes were not very good because they didn't need to be. Most the camo smocks in the 70s were made from shelter tents and looked great if you didn't know what to look for. You didn't have forums to know that there would be extra seams where they shouldn't be. Unless another collector near you knew the difference you held the item until you discovered the bitter truth. The Pink smocks if fakes are FAR above in quality anything else produced in the late 70s in the way of cloth. Even those who think they are post 1945 will have to admit they look damn good. I don't know if they are pre45 or post and we must await proof if there is any.
