Could be real but its definately an oddball, the runes are a bit separated and one tilted a little more. Its not the model tab if your wanting "textbook",and may even be new judging by its pristine condition.

Well, there are many things I like about this tab but Im not 100% sure. Its leaning towards a good one.

Its not the usual one you see around.

Thanks for all the help and PM's

Could someone PM me why these stiches were applied... Were they sewn prior to the application of the piping?? On the previous pics these stiches aren't visible on the pics due to the black on black color of the thread and black backing.

          regards,
          Gerd

            Hi Gerd,
seems the thread that held the tab on the tunic.

            Cheers,
            Francesco

The collar tab appears to be an original that was removed from a tunic. The extra stitches are from the sewing that was attaching the collar tab to a tunic collar. Tag is fine, piping looks original, and I would not have any problems with this collar tab.

                Thanks Bob!

I never realised the loose stitches were the ones that held the tab on the collar... I thought this tab was never applied and that these piped tabs were always sewn to the collar throught the piping.

                Kind regards,
                Gerd

Gerd, Not always if you browse the Beaver books you will see more often when they were machine stitched it was directly through the wool. Alot of newly restored or faked pieces are not ,my intuition tells me this is because whoever did the work saw a photo of a hand applied tab where the stitch remains invisible and thought they should hide the machine stitching.Ive found this on a number of tunics and personally feel that again we see the same exact technique used on different tunics that supposedly were done by different tailors, very suspicious as Sherlock Holmes might find. Congrats on a unique original tab in great shape.
