I don't have a problem with the fact the insignia isn't all factory sewn. Cheverons were always being changed out as guys got promoted.
I'm no expert on SS eagles so I can't speak to that but a machine sewn eagle and hand sewn cheveron makes sense to me. The cheveron looks fine and nothing about the eagle I see sends up a flare.
Cheers, Bill Huber

This looks exactly like the sort of stuff a known CA based faker is producing. It is all over the place in antique malls etc.

This has been discussed many times before, this combination (tropical eagle sewn to field grey cloth) is a modern thing, and these are somewhat common now
and I have said it before and say it again here this trait seems to have surfaced because the European style of eagle has become much harder to find and thus command a much higher price.
Could this happen period maybe on rare occasions as its an oddity rather than a common practice.
For a faker it would not be hard to mimic the correct method of stitching on a small flat piece of cloth, hell some manage to do it on sleeves of tunics!
It has also been argued in the past of period shots of tropical eagles being worn on field grey uniform, i am afraid you cannot tell from a black and white photo as this photo below shows one of the eagles is a tropical example all have been photographed at the same time same light conditions ect ect
cheers

Originals Do Exist........
Although stitching original Waffen-SS insignia to pieces of uniform cloth to obviously increase the overall value has attracted the attention of the plethora of unsrcupulous dealers that permeate this hobby, (lets face it, even the humble west wall medal and packet has received the attention of fakers) it should not be forgotten that original pieces do exist with the original insignia still attached to the section of uniform, and being in position since the war. The bottom line is that each piece has to be judged upon it's own merits, as for my own humble opinion, I would myself steer clear of the piece which started as the subject of this thread.
Regards Richard.Always looking for Luftwaffe Kampfflieger related document groups. In particular anything to Kampfgeschwader 2.
