Thank you for posting those excellent examples Chris. What a comprehensive thread this has become. Once it would have taken umpteen visits to shows to see this much information. When used informatively and correctly the forum is a valuable tool indeed.
Best wishes for the New Year to all.

        Vielen Dank

Might I add my praise to the postings of colleagues here---very interesting and seldom seen material. All the best for 2006 and much more good fortune for all collectors and seekers of arcane bits of a complicated past.

Many thanks to those of you who have shared some really nice pieces to make this a comprehensive reference thread for us all.

I am taking the liberty of adding these photos of a rare M1/167 eagle belonging to Jørn Schmidt, which he recently posted in another thread.

This thread "inspired" me to spend more than I usually would to acquire my own piece of aluminum insignia. Not nearly as rare as some of the fine items in this thread, but a nice addition to my collection nonetheless.

That's a nice skull. I think I know where you got it too. Congrats!

Yup. Sometimes there is a genuine nugget or two amongst the fool's gold. The key, as you are well aware, is knowing the difference!

Well, Chris, I thought I had found one, but someone bought it before I could. Here are the pics:

Does there exist a marked M1/17 skull?
When there is a marked M1/17 eagle, I suppose there also exist a M1/17 marked skull. If so, can we see pictures of it?

                      thanks

There's no M1/17 skull, at least never came up. There's a known fake skull marked m1/17 on the prongs, but looks like an Overhoff.

what do we have to say about this cupal skull.
Some famous collectors tell me it is a good one, others have doubts about it..

I do not believe the M1/17 skulls are original. The skull pattern is the same as the fake 475/43 and some of the other fakes. I believe the used the same face die and just changed the reverse die to alter the marks and pin attachment appurtanances.
