At first glance it looks to be a solid CW. The two things that stood out when looking at the photos is: One, the lining seems to have moderate ware yet the exterior is dead mint. Secondly, does the lip on the visor (on the right side of the photo #7) look a little too pronounced or is it just me. I also see no signs of cross-hatching but that could just be the photo. IMO, this one needs hands on. I am not sure about the cord being East German, I thought E.G. cords had much larger sliders.

Q:“One specific thing I would examine is if the thread tacking the lining behind the ventilation perforations at the front of the sweatband show any signs of residue from the orange foam pad.”
A: There is a transfer from sweat on the sweatband leather that has transferred directly to the corresponding area on lining, the tacking thread is similarly discolored as well.

Q: I've also just noticed at least one of the chinstrap buttons is replaced.
A: The flash caught the strap buttons just right; they are not as “brilliant” as the picture appears.

Q: Is the black band velvet or badge cloth? Also, isn't the wool a little too greenish to be ss?
A: The band is has velvet features. I have seen several that are converted Heer Visors, and this band is very “full” overwhelming the piping and have a “puffy” looseness to them. The band on this visor is taught and does not overwhelm the piping.
A: I believe the flash and the lighting may give the cap the “greenish” tone you may see. In natural sunlight, it is a definite gray.

Q: The cap cord looks east german.
A: The cord has what I would consider consistent wear patterns from moving on the front of the visor, however it being East German. Good Question. I know cap cords have been another “questionable” area in this arena.

A: The lining has light staining. Should this have been a “walking-out” visor, the sweat I would think is consistent with exterior wear seen. The lip is a photo angle issue I believe, as it is concentric all the way around. As far as cross-hatching… please explain clearly what you are looking for.

Please comments and questions keep them coming.
I have good feelings about this SS Visor, as a major dealer and I have been talking about "trading" of the visor. These talks began after my 1 year old had a "close-call" with the area that the visor was displayed in ( And I am not sure if I want to put in a box for several years or just move it on...). I can say however, should I want to sell it I want to be reasonable, and I am certainly not going to trade at "dealer cost" should it come down to moving it on to another home.

Split Pin
Arran
C: The clue to the replaced button was the shot which shows the button split brad and the impression left to the reverse of the sweatband- they don't appear to be the same length.
R: It appears the mark is from rubbing, brads appear to mirror the marks on sweatband. On both sides the forward pin mark is exaggerated a bit. I am wondering if this is not from wear and sweat.
For Sh--s and Giggles;
What would the fellow members feel a cap like this valued? I have read on other threads on how the SS market is bullish right now, and beginning to get out of the reach of the average collector. So as many members chime in on a value, we the collectors may be setting the market on this type of item. Not the dealer.
Please note should I elect to sell/trade this, my own fellow members would be helping me set a "market" value.
Thanks for your input,
Craig
