The Dachau stuff combined with other stuff the vet picked up at various places. Sold everything I didn't want, so don't get excited guys!
Man, I've really got to start advertising in the local CT papers

    Nice haul

A company clerk would have to type the form and an officer would have to sign it as well. People being people - even back then - if you wagged up with a fistfull of collar tabs they would probably just tell you to 'forget it, you don't need paperwork for that junk'. I think that's a reasonable and supportable explanation for the lack of paperwork for insignia lots, belt buckes etc.

I've run across 'capture papers' tucked down inside P-38 and Luger holsters in the place where the clip goes which could be explained as the GI would want to prove who it belonged to if someone 'lifted' it and didn't think to check the clip pouch.

I've also seen names and serial numbers inked inside the holster for the same reason. I still have a Luger holster with the 'liberators' name and 'Italy, Texas' in my collection. The capture papers, if any, are long gone........

There will always be disbelievers in everything (man on the moon). The paper shows that surplus insignia was actually taken from Dachau. It merely validates something commonly known for decades to those who won't believe anything unless it's in print. Most GIs did not bother getting permission slips (in fact less got them then did)for minor pocketable flotsum like insignia, it was usually for larger items, so this is more unusual. Frankly, the revisionist debate about this is fairly recent, mostly brought about by either newer collectors or those collectors not used to buying directly from vets.
Ahhh ok, so this in conjunction with vet buys etc. was enough to reasonably conclude (even for doubters) that there was in fact a large Dachau horde. That answers the question, I was thinking that this alone was considered proof positive and thought I was missing something. Thank you.

        Best, Sal

as a kid in the early '60s I bought a doz. or so dachau-made 'tabs (mint of course) liberated by a schoolmate's uncle. they'd been stapled long ago into a manila folder but luckily no staple stains.
          j. Angolia talked me out of them decades ago. anyway there were masses of these things and as all know the volunteer tabs are still around in vy. good numbers...
